Jeep aw4, Toyota a340e/f transmission shift shaft note

Just a short FYI about replacing the shift shaft on an aw4 or Toyota a340e/f transmission. I do not go through the entire replacement process but I can give a short explanation right here in the description. essentially this requires you to drop the pan, remove the valve body, you have to unbolt the shift lever on the left side of the transmission if it isn't broken off. and on the right side of the transmission you need to unbolt the mode select switch. on mine I had to cut it off with a Sawzall because it was seized in place. you will also need to drive a small pin that is below that spacer out and then you should be able to slide the shaft out. if it is still in the Jeep you will need to unbolt the transmission crossmember and tilt the transmission down as far as you can in order to slide the shaft out.
