VIDEO INFO:
With this Jebel Jais hike in the UAE, you’ll be the highest member of the public in the country and almost twice the height of the world’s tallest tower, the Burj Khalifa.
1. Reach the highest public point in the UAE on foot
2. Amazing photo opportunities all around
3. Suitable for standard forms of fitness and kids (with a bit of help)
4. AED5 per person to park at Jebel Jais Viewing Deck Park - the starting point which is situated on the Jebel Jais mountain road about 2km from the end of the public road. You can't miss it!
5. It takes about 2 hours to drive form Dubai.
6. The hike starts with a steep climb, before the first rest point at the Viewing Deck Park summit where there is a huge UAE flag. From there, it's fairly straightforward undulating paths until another steep climb to the summit.
7. The hike is not a loop so you will come down the same way you went up.
8. UAE’s highest public point is not actually the highest point in the country... find out more details when I summit in the video!
_____________
Directions to Jebel Jais:
1. From Dubai, head north on the 311
2. Turn off to the right at junction 126 towards 'E611, Al Rams, Dubai' which is shortly before the 311 bears left as it enters Ras Al Khaimah city.
3. Continue straight along the road through to the 611.
4. Head north on the 611 towards Oman.
5. Around 15-20 minute further, turn right, signposted ‘Jebel Jais’.
6. Follow the mountain road and Jebel Jais signposts up the mountain road to the Viewing Deck Park.
*Navigation apps will be able to guide you to Jebel Jais Viewing Deck Park .
_____________
Jebel Jais hike requirements:
1. A good pair of hiking boots are recommended but suitable trainers are okay.
2. Plenty of water - I recommend around 3 litres, especially in the hotter months.
3. A towel - to keep dry from perspiration.
4. A backpack with supplies such as food and snacks.
5. A charged mobile phone.
6. Sunscreen and a hat.
7. Suitable clothing for the season you are hiking. Jebel Jais temperatures tend to be 10 degrees cooler at sea level.
8. First Aid kit.
9. Average hiking time - 4 hours

    Interesting. Is the summit elevation on that board at 3:23 correct? 1415m? I presume some civil survey went into that. If I plot this route on Strava, you get points on the road at the summit that are greater than 1600m. What do you believe? In my previous experience with summits, the advertised elevations are often quite off. Is that sign right at the very top?

  • @sportstraveltom

    @sportstraveltom

    3 жыл бұрын

    Ho Ron, the first elevation featured at 3.23 is not the high point of Jebel Jais. That is the first high point you reach on the trail and the first designated rest point. The true highest public point in the UAE is later in the video at 1,640m. Hope that helps.

    @jl60522 жыл бұрын

    I have been there yesterday and dont understand why they call it "highest public point" as 30 meters above, there is where the zipline starts, so that is accessible as well and you are higher. Anyway we did not stop here and continued all the way up. Around the fence of Sheikhs summer house, first we reached Western peak at 1910 and then continued those like 300 meters to Oman to reach the very peak of Jebel Jais at 1934. There is + - marked pathway with stone stairs from here and there so I think lot of people are using this way. You should edit your video to motivate ppl to go all the way up and not to stop at these tourist trap signs :)

  • @sportstraveltom

    @sportstraveltom

    Жыл бұрын

    I know what you mean. My only thought is the zipline is a booked experience and you can only go there with the zipline tour staff so not technically free to the public. Next time I will do an expanded hike further along the path :)
