I am a Drum n Bass producer and arrived here after listening to 'Dom n Roland's' - Tone Poem. Completely different genres yet both master composers.

It's based upon a poem by the Swedish poet Viktor Rydberg, "Skogsrået" ("The Wood Nymph"), about a young, strong and handsome man, who one moonlit and windy autumn night, walks through the wood, on his way to a celebration. Forest spirits make him loose his way, and lead him deeper and deeper into the unknown, where he is bewitched and seduced by the Wood Nymph. Afterwards he never more can find joy in life, he becomes endlessly depressed and prematurely aged, always thinking about that enchanted meeting, deep in the dark wood.

It's about as long as the entire seventh symphony isn't it? This is a lovely work
I really don't know why this piece isn't played more. There's so few recordings.

That's because it's not rated at all. It's tragically ignored.

From about 2:00 - 8:00, it's almost like a template for a kind of minimalism......only far better.

I like minimalism and absolutely love 2-8 mins of this piece but the last word in the world I’d use to describe those wonderful measures is minimalist

Absolutely, like his other early work, Kullervo, a masterpiece from the composer I consider the greatest of them all.

This is early Sibelius. In fact so early that the opening bars could be taken as the signature of the arrival of a new voice.

It is a very good piece, but I also do think it 'shoots its wad' in the first nine minutes.
