    To understand Jean's passion for the game and respect for the history of America's Pastime all you need to do is look at the fabulous framed prints of renowned Cuban photographer Osvaldo Salas in the background of New York baseball in the 1950's. Jean is doing an amazing job documenting the game so many of us love at all levels. Her recent book "Grassroots Baseball" is a work of art and not to be missed. Jean really cares about the game and is doing so much with her non-profit to grow the game where it needs help- the grassroots level. This aint about gear- its about passion and seeing and heart. You can't fake loving baseball. Jean gets it.

    “Have a plan” and “get out there and shoot” are absolutely great messages. Having a plan doesn’t mean everything is going to go exactly as expected. It means that you are ready for the unexpected. Your plan has to include responding to Reality trying to mess with that plan. If you just get out there and shoot you will get used to this haha. My sports photography background is rooted in skateboarding, and all the best stuff in skateboarding happens outside the plan.

    What Jean captures with her camera is much more than just sports ... It's the story behind the game and about the dreams connected with playing the game, from the sandlot to the stadium. Such a unique way of looking at people and different cultures!

    I have always loved B & H and I've seen some of their videos before, but this one raises the bar! I checked out Jean's website and immediately ordered the Grassroots Baseball book - incredible imagery! I hope that when live music can return again, Jean will "have a plan" to photograph some live music, musicians and ... my band!

    I could mention how great it is to see a professional photographer getting ready to hit the road (at last) during this pandemic, or say how wonderful Jean's Grassroots baseball book is, or how lucky she is to have Z-man as her mentor, but what i really want is a slice of that pizza to see if it is truly NYC-worthy!

    This is a great piece on Jean and I have had the pleasure to knowing her for a few years having met her at Yankee Stadium during the Playoffs vs Houston. Long story but she came up to our seats in the upper deck Section 420B (best in the stadium) to get a well thought out picture of the sun setting behind home plate so the shadow would cover the field in a cool symmetric pattern showing the Stadium facade outline. Seeing her picture on her facebook told me then she was awesome. We have met her a few times in Coopestown as well, as she was covering events there too. Jean is an amazing person and master at her craft. Follow her Grassroots pictures on Facebook. I love that B&H recognizes Jean and your store is my only go to place when I buy my cameras, lenses and other equipment. First time there I thought I was in the Willy Wanka land of cameras........ I love B&H and Jean's work and her Grassroots Book is awesome (I recommend it) and I look forward to her future Grassroots activity and B&H hopefully covering it. Thank you this video made my day! Thank you so much for sharing Jean. As a Photographer myself I find your journey and drive inspirational. Your mastery of story telling, use of light and composition really shine through in your book "Grassroots Baseball: Where Legends Begin". But you'll have to prove me wrong sometime about the whole west coast pizza thing. I look forward to checking out your next project.

    Hello I'm looking to buy a new nikon camera for sports photography...I am deciding between the nikon d500, and Z6. Which one do you believe is the better choice? thank you!

  • @BandH

    @BandH

    In terms of size/weight, continuous shooting and available AF points across the frame, the Nikon Z6 would be a better choice. However, the D500 gives you a DX sensor which helps add to your telephoto range when using Nikon FX lenses, due to the crop factor. The right choice really depends on which features are most important to you.
