Yeah, that's about what I got from this too. What the heck was he talking about? I've watched Bloodsport like 100 times. It's one of my all time favorite movies, and many other Van Damme movies. I feel more confused at the end of the video than I was before. I just need him to kick something and say "Aaaaaaaahhhhhhhhhhhh!!!!!!!!!"

It's difficult to follow. Van Damme was upset by how "Bloodsport" was edited (2:01). There were too many cuts during his fights. He was in tears (2:24). So he went into the office of an executive who had told him that he'd never be a star (2:45) and told the executive that he was wrong (2:50).

I agree and I’ll tell you bottom line a great guy but I remember watching MTV special where he talked about how much he loved his wife and kids and as soon as the camera was off he was in a limo with four girls well at least 19 years old and that was very funny talk about no loyalty to the wife

JCVD the movie is criminally overlooked even by Van Damme fans. His acting in that film was incredible, that monologue at the end was one of the few times a movie has made me cry, maybe its because I followed his career as a kid & had preconceived notions about what kind of guy he was & they were wrong because his speech was so powerful & raw it felt too real

  • @neaituppi7306

Not really, Van Damme fans know about it, but even renowned actors like Nicholas Cage spoke about it, which is how I found out about it. But that was the thing with it. Where it took awhile for even fans of his to know about it, because there was so little publicity for it, it was a french made film. But it basically gave the whole industry evidence that he was a real actor. (Richard Corliss of Time magazine named Van Damme's performance in the film the second best of the year (after Heath Ledger's The Joker in The Dark Knight),[9] having previously stated that Van Damme "deserves not a black belt, but an Oscar")

Okay, so since I know a thing or two about his story (Loosely) this is how I will try and translate. "So When I was young I was in great shape in Belgium and had my own Gym and I was a Karate Champion who had it all, the women, the fame and the money. I went to the US, left all that behind to try and make it. I was so poor in trying to be an actor in the US that in order to make a long distance call to my family, I would wait for the women I randomly hooked up with to go have a shower so I can charge the long distance fee to her phone. Then because of my martial arts I got involved with Chuck Norris and started to spar with him and he would practice his moves he would use in the movies on me, so when I went home for a visit I was referred to as Chuck Norris's punching bag and a failure at trying to be an actor and my father was ashamed of what I had given up to NOT become. The I saw the head of Canon Studio (He got his accent down perfectly I should ad) and he told me I will never be a star like Chuck and Michael (The dude from American Ninja) and so we got into a heated exchange where I said I ain't no bodies bitch, so he tried to calm me down and gave me a script called Bloodsport to which no one had faith in and I did some better more realistic things when I made that film but it got chopped down in the editing to be more hokey. So my charisma still shown through and that is how I became a star and not an actor." Hope that cleared things up a little.

I’ve watched Bloodsport a million times on VHS. A friend told me I should watch it. “It’s good!”. He lent me the tape, but I didn’t watch it because I didn’t believe him. It couldn’t be better then all the fighting movies I’ve seen. A few weeks later I came around to watch it. I’ve watched it at least 5 times that weekend. what he was saying was.. van damme had a successful gym in Belgium. he left it all to go to america and become a movie star. it was hard to get even the smallest part in a movie. he was training with chuck norris. people in belgium joked that he gave up everything to become chuck norris' punching bag. van dammes dad felt embarrassed. then the film producer Menahem Golan gave a desperate young van damme some milk and cookies and the script to Bloodsport. then he became the muscles from brussels. yay.

Among getting two autographs from him he made my late grandmother very happy with his kindness. I'll always remember that and I will always respect him. I consider JC a really talented actor. That's why I was so obsessed with him and still feel all the feels when I watch his films now. Yeah he's hot and can kick ass, but the types of scripts and stories he did and his commitment to it being good...He really brings depth and interest to otherwise cliche material. I think the Hollywood machine wanted him to just be eye candy and do what he was told and when he wasn't, they discarded him. He deserves way better. He's got heart and charisma and still making films, despite the haters. It sucks people talk shit about him more than respect what he inspired-and continues to-in so many. He is quite a few levels of talent, people just wanted him to be one note. He will always have a special place for me. Even if his story rambled for time. 💗✨

My favorite scene in Bloodsport, is when there is a montage of fights with music. The particular moment is when one of the fighters jumps in slow motion and does an inside crescent kick to his opponent's face, and the guy who gets hits turns the wrong way! Understood all of it but then again I listen to every Jean-Claude Van Damme interview in the world. Basically to get the role he he did his spin kick and did the splits right in front of his desk and after that the guy said bring me the script Bloodsport and boom. And what he was trying to say about the script was the script was a rip off Bruce Lee's Enter the Dragon. That's why It had Bolo in it. And the famous lines brick don't hit back. Bolo was the reason the movie got eyes on it cuz he was in Bruce Lee's movie. And then when the movie was finished they played it for the studios and they said it was crap. Van dame recut the moive his self took like 3 months. And when the studio seen it they decide to release in Select theaters after it was apparent it was a hit they put it out in America and soon as it reach Europe ge was a star and only got paid like a hundred and fifty thousand for like for movies

Me being a kid loving him I wanted to meet him so bad and when I asked my mom she said she asked him and he was the biggest asshole on earth about wanting to meet a kid. Almost acted like he was to good for a kid to even be speaking to him...lmmfao that’s my memory of him... here’s a bettter story of a mega star my uncle is Patrick Swayze and I was in the movies fatherhood with him nothing but a extra but he stayed at our house road in our car and became my uncle after that. I’ll never forget he told me I’ll never forget your name he said that to me the first time I ever met him. And I felt like hot shit saying Patrick swayze will never forget my name. Wasn’t until I got older I realized his brothers name is Kyle as well...lmmfao I thought that was the coolest thing. Uncle Patrick stayed in touch and visited all through my life all the way up until he died. Rip UNK PAT

So Swayze wasn’t your uncle at all. He was just someone you met and spent time with and got to know. In order to be your uncle he needs to be a) your parent’s sibling or married to one of Swayze’s or his wife’s siblings. He wasn’t your uncle and he didn’t have a brother named Kyle either. His two brothers were Don and Sean. You’re full of shit.

When I was a kid as well I loved him so much! I practice all the moves from the films. They were over 18 films but they were the best films for a 12 year old.

I actually got to meet him on a film set in North Carolina when he filmed Time Cop, and my father interviewed him for a radio show. He made quite an impression on me as a boy, and it has been fun to watch his career ever since.

I was and still am a huge fan of JCVD. When I was six years old I watched Bloodsport. When I saw him jump up and do the splits, I told my family “I can do that.” I dropped to the floor and did them.

Was it Hard Target where Van Damme punches the snake and knocks it out? I remember being in the movie theater watching that and the audience went ape shit, everyone laughed for about 5 minutes after. Van Dame and Arnold can somehow mix in comedy with action and you still take them seriously in the action, rare gift

It's crazy to hear how flat broke Vam Damme was and then. Bam, Bloodsport is in his lap and he never looked back.
