This video is about JCR PERCUSSION in the Bronx: A trip to JCR Percussion owned by Calixto Rivera, aka Caly, where congas, timbales, bongos, panderetas and cowbells have been made for over 40 years in the Bronx, el Condado de la Salsa. A humble and modest man in this shop where everything is handmade. He ships his wares to Spain, Peru, Germany and numerous other locations throughout the globe only by word of mouth. There are no computers in his shop, nor fancy equipment, just manual labor with love and passion. A musician himself, his instruments are made to perfection, especially his signature item, the cowbell , which is shipped out yearly by the thousands. I encourage all latin music enthusiasts to visit his simple shop so you can see where musical instruments are made by hand like the simple cowbell described as the rhythmic backbone of latin music. I just got one today from a friend. I've been wanting one of my own for years. The first JCR cowbell I played belonged to the late great batalero & conguero Francisco Aguabella (RIP)..... Cali rocks!!
Casi durante toda mi vida de musico he usado campanas hechas por Don Cali Rivera (JCR). La calidad de esos instrumentos es insuperable. La campana mas nueva que tengo me la regalo mi hermano (Papo Lleras) que en uno de sus viajes a NY a ver a los Yankees,, le di la direccion del sitio, y fue al lugar, y me trajo una campana "low ptch" brutal!!! A Don Cali Rivera, que Dios Lo Bendiga y se restablezca bien pronto. GRACIAS! Chiqui Lleras bongocero de la Orquesta COPACABANA de Puerto Rico.

+Carlos Reidtler Si, brother, lamentablemente cerro por cuestiones de la salud del dueño Caly Rivera. Uno de mis colegas fue a comprar las ultimas campanas que quedaban hace como una semana. No se si tendran todavia. Es una lastima, pero como decia Hector Lavoe: "Todo tiene su final".

Coooo pana no me digas eso. La semana que viene llega mi cuñada a NY y la mande a q me comprara una. Y no vuelve a abrir. O es mientras se recupera?

+Carlos Reidtler Segun lo que me dijeron, la fabrica cerro permanentemente. Seria un milagro si Caly se recupera y la vuelva a abrir. Creo que alguien mas esta vendiendo campanas de JCR a traves de Ebay.
