JCCPD officer who shot his sergeant: 'I thought he was going to rape me!'

"I thought he was going to [expletive] rape me." Those were the words that James City County police officer Michael Rusk screamed at a 911 operator shortly after allegedly shooting and seriously hurting Sgt. Christopher Gibson outside a Williamsburg bar in January. Rusk is facing charges in connection to the January shooting, which investigators initially said happened as a result of a "verbal argument" after a night of drinking. The 911 call made by the alleged shooter, however, along with surveillance video exclusively obtained by 10 On Your Side, shows another side of the story.

I am a US Army Infantry veteran and decades after my time as a soldier was working all over the world on Ships and Oil Rigs as a paramedic. I was put in a similar position. I had to barricade myself in the clinic and call Human Resources and they had the Captain of the ship escorted off the ship in Spain. I am a fairly big man, and stay in the gym. This was utterly humiliating. As bad as I wanted to physically injure this freak, I didnt want to create an international incident while thousands of miles from home. I was never at any risk of any real assault or injury... It was just the humiliation and the audacity that someone thought they could get away with acting that way in the workplace while a ships captain. He resigned rather than face an investigation. The client got rid of medics on that vessel, so I basically lost my position there. I worked for about 4 more months before quitting and moving away from the United States. I should have taken them the court... But the humiliation was just too much to bear. This stuff does happen. The victim here resorted to violence, and I dont blame him... But look at how messed up his life is now. I locked myself in a room with a random employee I grabbed as a witness because I was afraid I was gonna kill this guy. My heart goes out to him. I hope his attacker wakes up in pain for the rest of his life.

True. This is why this situation sucks, because information isn’t being released by the department or other cop. The sergeant is in a position of power and may have coerced the employee to go in some manner (aggressive micro-managing until he said yes to going out for one beer or something). Maybe there’s a record of complaints about abuse of power or unwanted sexual advances with other workers or on citizens during arrests. Maybe Rusk felt that the department had sergeant’s back and was too afraid to speak out or else lose his job, etc. maybe they had a hidden relationship, and they got into argument. They were making amends, but the sergeant took it too far? Sometimes it ain’t easy. It ain’t black and white. Obviously the department may be rotten by the looks of it. For me, I would just file a compliant. If I felt any resistance, I would apply elsewhere quickly and leave that environment as soon as I had the other job in the bag.

Yes! My dad left his great paying job because of something like this. He had to stay in his RV because it was out of town. His "neighbor" was a coworker and came over. My dad opened the door and the guy started attacking him. My dad, that had recently had a heart attack, fought as hard as he could. The guy told him he was going to f him or kill him. My dad got away outside to his truck. Called 911 and his work friend down the road. The police didn't even take the guy in. And they left MY dad's id in that guys RV and he had to go get it. His boss made him come to his house for the week. They said that he wouldn't have to work with that guy and the next day the other boss had them at the same spot. My dad quit. They begged him back and put him in another state and gave him a huge raise. I was ready to go to Texas and throw down on the little Paris, TX police department. I still say dad should have sued.

The report said they don’t know what happened in the hour after leaving the bar, as there’s no surveillance footage after that, so could they have been at a secondary location where the firearm was located? Like at his home? I don’t know where it happened at. I think even having it in his vehicle while out drinking is still illegal, correct? But I don’t know if it says anywhere he had his firearm on him in the establishment?

@@SouthernGIGI Wtf are you talking about? The video evidence shows the superior officer (who was also there drinking with him) move across the table, sit next to him and then put his hand under the table on top of his leg/hand. We then see the young officer resist the advance! Then we see a similar altercation outside the bar FFS. And why would a man think of "rape" after shooting another man in an argument? and then say it on the 911 call? Beginning to think you work for the department? Do you?

Just like a straight guy isn't into every girl he knows. The power dynamics involved absolutely played a part in this. I hope this guy can heal and move on from this.
