Where I Purchased - JBL website, during a sale
Listed Price - $300
Condition (not included in score) - 100%
I bought these brand new.
Quality - 8.0
These have nice sturdy cabinets and it appears JBL used nice speaker components, like woofer, binding posts etc.
One minor complaint if the wood grain vinyl. It looks nice but I think the seams, where they are bonded to the cabinet, seem like they have the potential to peel. It wasn’t peeling on this speaker or anything, just basing this on other speakers I’ve owned in the past.
For a MSRP of $600, these are definitely worthy of the price tag.
Sound - 8.5
I just loved the sound of these speakers. Like I mentioned in the video, they are energetic and fun speakers.
They have fantastic highs, great lows and they present a wide soundstage.
Like the RP-600M, they seem to be lacking slightly in the mid-bass regions.
Very nice sounding speakers and can get clean and loud. I would recommend adding a subwoofer though, like I always do:)
MSRP Rating - 8
These are positioned very nicely in the market place, when it comes to quality and performance.
I would wait for a sale though as they happen quite frequently, it seems.
Aesthetics - 7.5
This is definitely a love it or hate it type speaker, when it comes to looks.
I never really liked the looks of these speakers in photos but they are much better looking in person.
If I had to choose one word to describe them, I’d use intimidating.
Price Paid Value - 9.0
At $300 brand new, factory sealed, this is about as good as you can possibly do. These are an absolute steal at anything under $350.
Average Guy HiFi Rating - 41/50 = 82%
Final Thoughts -
These exceeded my expectations in just about all 5 categories.
They will play loud and clean and will reward you greatly, if you feed them high quality power.
If JBL comes out with a Studio 530, series II, if would be great if they improved on the mid bass.
Other than that, I thoroughly enjoyed my time with these babies!

It's not hard to keep in touch with your audience when it's relatively small, the bigger the audience, the harder that is. If you expect Justin Bieber or Lady Gaga to personally respond to you, you're a fool but when they started out i'm sure they responded to everyone. The numbers just became overwhelming for them as it does for anyone who becomes really popular Hopefully some day Dustin will get there but given that audio is kind of an obscure hobby I kind of doubt that will happen

I agree with Raiden Digital about the 570 model. I own a pair and love them. For me, the 570 is the sweet spot in the JBL Studio Series. They offer all of the detail and neutrality of the 530 with the added benefit of a second 5 1/2 inch mid-range which, I believe, enhances vocals and acoustic strings. For me, the large 580 and 590 are better suited for those looking for a bigger bass impact or louder sound volumes.

@@calvincurtis8648 The thing I've noticed too, is the 570 are more normal for a regular amp to drive. The 590's seam to do this thing where they dip down below 6 Ohms with crazy bass. The 590's are pretty much a built in subwoofer. The 570's seem to be much friendlier to the amps, even though they are a little more inefficient and require a higher vol. number to achieve the same volume. The 570's sound like a single 12" but they're so small and slim. I agree with what zeos said too, that the 570's kind of have more "Juicy" fun bass.

Personally I think they are only useful as desk speakers. I got 3 of the 570 towers for $200 each on sale. They are so much better than the 530 because they don't have the port chuffing problem and thus you can position them more freely. Pulling the speakers away from the wall can reduce port chuffing but I think most people experience it die to trying to make them play frequencies they weren’t intended to reproduce, at levels beyond their capabilities. I think many people out there just parrot what others say, unfortunately. I’ve been guilty of doing it also, so I’m definitely not immune. The 530’s at MSRP are just not a great deal, especially when there’s speakers out there costing considerably less, like the Sony SS-CS5. Now when the 530’s go on sale, like they normally do, they become a much better option. I definitely prefer the RP-600M’s over the 530’s but they are quite a bit more expensive. I’m considering buying 3 JBL HDI 1600’s, to replace my beloved Klipsch KL-650-THX speakers. So the Klipsch/JBL battle continues, at my house. Thank you very much for sharing your thoughts with us, my friend!

I bought the 530s and the infinity r162 and the 162s sound better for $160. The JBL 530 seems to play excellent for some songs and not for others... I still can't get used to them. I have been A B back and forth between the two

@@blazermdx thanks for the reply! I want to love these JBLs but they just haven't done it for me yet. And I find it very odd that they are spoken about so highly, maybe I feel into a hype trap or maybe my setup isn't correct. I have 100 watts from a Yamaha 710 receiver powering them. My ears hear more of the instruments that are background better then the vocals that should be up front if that makes sense

@@stevevinas should make a simple adjustment to the midrange. If your Yamaha receiver was made during the last 10 years or so, manufactures started artifically boosting their power ratings by rating stated power output at only at 1,000 hZ. Receivers/amps made 15 to 20 years ago and longer had to rate power output from the full bandwith from 20 hz all the way up to 20,000 hz. That's why people say older receivers sound much more powerful with the 'same' watt rating. I think only the most top of the line receivers/amps today still rate power output from 20 to 20,000 hz. They know older audiophiles would really frown if they only measured at 1,000 hz. Under the old measurement, todays receiver power rating would probably be cut in half. So you simply may not be giving them enough power. I have the JBL Studio 530s and i think they sound fantastic. I hope you gave them time to break in.

@@marvinmurakami8828 That's interesting. I have a Yamaha A710 and its specs are... 90 watts per channel into 8 ohms (20-20,000 Hz) at 0.09% THD, with 2 channels driven. How much more power do these JBLs require? And adjustment to the mid range would be done through an external EQ?

@@stevevinas you just answered my question so you're giving them enough power but not able to give any boost to the midrange. Doesn't your receiver have any tone controls? Maybe it only has bass and treble controls but no midrange control? If you only have bass and treble controls then you'll have to turn down the bass and/or treble to help bring out the midrange more. That's the only way i see bringing out the midrange vocal area out front that you seem to prefer by your earlier comment.

It may be just me or how I had them placed but I too tried both speakers and found the RP-600Ms to be more vivid. The major detractor to the studio 530 was that I found the vocals more recessed and almost difficult to hear compared to the RP-600Ms. This had me thinking the RP-600M is a much clearer speaker, although I think they are just very different. The 530 is pretty laid back in the high end.
