Hi Opaz i just got rcf745 mk4. And i was wondering is it better than these speakers??? I recently had jbl prx715s and upgraded to RCf 745s mk4. And i changed prx718 subs to the qsc ks118s. I kind of think instead of the rcfs and qscs maybe i should have gotten the srx 815s with 818s subs??? Or should i stay with what i got already. Because i feel the jbl prx was had more punch and base than the rcf745s that i changed to

All speakers suit all tastes. We will all eq are equipment to how we wish our pa to sound, which is great as we have so many to choose from to cater for what we suggest is the best for us. My choice will not be everybody else's choice I think the 745 is a great performer and a great speaker for many reasons and I prefer it to the 815. The ks118 is also good but i haven't listened to the 818. If I think speakers are good then I think they deserve a demo at least but ultimately may not be your choice Unfortunately only YOU can decide if you have the correct speakers. I can't really say the 745/ks118 is better than the prx715/815 + 818. Due to the latter both being from the same brand jbl, don't get into the idea that matched brands are the best choice that is not always true. All I can say is "Go with your gut". If you think something isn't right then change it until you think it is. You have listened to both combos, you know what sound pleases you Hope this helps

Hello, I’m debating between Srx15 or art 945. What do you recommend? I mostly play Hip hop and house music. I don’t want to bring a sub for my small events.

William, nice to hear from you. The SRX 815's are great, the Evolve 50s are also a very good choice. Both of these speakers perform well when it comes to taking care of the low frequencies. the JBL's are big on sound, the Evolves are also wide on sound. It's a hard one to call William. the JBL are very heavy and you need the app to get them sounding right. The EV tend to clip easy and when they do, it's difficult to relax whilst this is happening. I don't really do this but I watched one of your uploads (Zimmerman wedding) it was a nice watch, to see people really having a good boogie. You need to demo both systems. I have both but only you will know which one of them suits your requirements. Hope this help

I like big sound and I older now and really don't like heavy speakers however I may choose between the RCF 745A or those JBL SRX815. I don't like speakers that clip. I have the QSC K12 and never have been a fan of them. They are starting to peak very easily now. They are just getting the job done for now.

William I own the SRX speakers and they’re awesome speakers however you’ll need an additional EQ or something like a maximizer if you don’t want to mess with the app. They’re great but SO heavy! I’m a little older now myself and hurt after a gig with these. Great sound but you’ll pay for it! Lol Hope that helps.

All speakers hiss. If you have a very high pitch whine that you can hear 10-20 feet away, then you have a problem

@@opaz. i find it a little louder than my promaxx 114a fbt the older model Thought it was something wrong with it The hiss of the prommax it's barely noticeable but prx815 it's noticeable

I have a cheap speaker that cost 200 with very little hiss and a speaker that costs 1600 with more hiss. When the speaker is at party volume can you hear a hiss?

So you hear it on the srx It's as loud as the cheap Mackie speaker Can't hear on loud sound Which is good

Why would you want RCA inputs for these? Seems like you wouldn't do it justice

The more connectivity the better for me Pete. I can think of 2 occasions the clients wanted last minute connections for a device and it's been a saviour. Many of my other newer speakers support a host of options other than a xlr/1/4" combo - 3mm, bluetooth, rca

@@opaz. thank you for replying I really needed your insight. i'm in south Africa . you cant really demo speakers nearby … you have to go to cities … please don't mind if I ask too much. I really need to buy stand alone tops and I don't wanna waste money coz I can only buy once. currently have 4 DSR112 but I cant use them as stand alone. the DZR says 139db while HDM say 133 . DZR has frequency from 34db@-10d. do you think the HDM might still be a better option?

Don't worry about the freq stuff Halalisa, I've heard the DZR at a gig in Australia and they were extremely impressive and very powerful, you'll not be disappointed, honestly. I don't have DZR's but I listened to them for 5 hours and I was very impressed Go with the DZR 👍🏻

And my written review before I discovered that noise issue: About a year ago, I purchased four SRX815p self powered/processed JBL speakers followed by a purchase of four of the SRX812p. My primary use is for floor monitors, but I do use them as mains for smaller events. After getting to know them, here’s what I have to say. Pros: The speakers get loud. Key to this is that JBL uses a larger 1.5” exit high frequency compression driver with 3” diaphragm behind it relative to most if not all other speakers in this price range. It’s not the kind of output you would get from a full 2” exit driver with 4” diaphragm behind it which would raise the cost of the speaker substantially. But the output is noticeably better than any of the boxes I’ve used in this range with a 1” exit driver with a 2” or smaller diaphragm behind it. The trend seems to be going towards smaller than a 2” diaphragms. Combined with a high performance woofer and hefty amp/processor combo, the box gets loud and sounds good. So far the bands that have used them as monitors have had no complaints and the energy can cause them to wince if they’re cranked up from the grunt of the horn. They have a lot of EQ filters available if you use the built-in networking to control them with Audio Architect, or HiQnet, 20 filters to be exact. On the cons side: the first thing I noticed is how flimsy the grills are. two of the 8 boxes I purchased had dented grills in shipping without any visible damage to the box. The shipping boxes aren’t very thick or well supported, so just something bumping into the middle of the box was enough to bend the grills. They really, really need to be thicker and won’t handle musicians pressing the their shoes on them like they do sometimes. The next area of concern is the vunerability of the controls on the amp module. The encoder knob isn’t recessed and is definitely prone to getting damaged. I’m going to figure out a way to put some type of cover plate over the control section to add some protection. This should have been better thought out in the design stage. Adding even moderate protection wouldn’t have increased cost much. Another thing I’ve noticed on several of these speakers is the lack of damping of the amp module components. A mechanical buzz/rattle when you’re behind the cabinet can be heard when they’re running at high levels. This is certainly due to inadequate damping or securing of components or parts in the amp section. It’s pretty annoying when you hit a frequency where these components vibrate and the buzz starts. You don’t really hear it out front, but it’s not something you would expect to hear standing behind a $1000+ speaker. Lastly, the software control via ethernet gives you a lot of filters to work with. But what’s lacking is a user definable high pass filter. As far as I can tell, there are only high and low shelving filters. I want to be able to set my own custom high pass as far as slope and frequency. But I can’t do that. I would gladly trade half of those 20 filters for a user definable high pass. Maybe JBL can do that in a future firmware update. I mean really, who needs 20 parametric filters on a self powered box that’s already voiced? Seems a bit overkill. Most people designing systems and installations expect to be able to control the high pass. I've also flown these from time to time with the M10 rigging points. The rigging points are ok, but due to the monitor angle and placement of the amp module, the point you would use for 'pull back' when flying them horn up is off center and can cause the box to twist a bit which is annoying. It would have been nice to have a properly centered pull back point. To conclude, the SRX815p/812p are a good ‘bang for the buck’ speaker. Lots of features for the price. They are lacking in some robustness though that seems like it could be addressed even in this price range. They’re not inexpensive, thought they’re not top shelf cost either. Stronger grills, protection for controls, lack of rattles, and fully adjustable high pass filter would make it a truly killer box.
