I bought the 104's. Initially they sounded ok but then I realised the sound was quite muffled. Splashed out on the 305 MkII's. Difference is night and day. I'm streaming Amazon Music HD via USB to a £75 SMSL DAC. The sound quality is jaw dropping. This £250 "system" is incredible. Deep bass, great vocal clarity and outstanding imagery. Highly recommended.

In India, 104 BT are sold online for around 65 USD/pair once every two months with 3 years warranty.. 305p mkll cost 300 USD/pair here even in sales..

Excellent little speakers. I have a pair on my desk and they are never disappointing in regards to sound quality.

verry tempting to go pull the trigger on some 305p's again. I settled for the 104BT's and although theyve been great, I do miss that extra low end and the sound stage. Biggest difference between the two I've noticed is the 205's are flatter in the upper mids and treble and has a "disappearing" speaker effect. No matter how I place the 104's I can still tell the sound is coming from a speaker

The highs are more airy in the 305sp but the 104s focuses more on the mid-range.

Only person to actually take a chance and show how they sound. Instead they try to sell them! THANK YOU! BIG WIN for 104's IMHO!

Hi! I just bought a pair of JBL One Series 104 and connected to my audio interface with TRS cables to the corresponding balanced output and to the balanced inputs in the speaker . I find the volume very low even at the maximum volume level in my interface and the speakers, only connected with RCA cable I get a correct volume level. Are they faulty? Any experience with it? Thank you.

How would the 104s compare to audioengine a2+? I can't find any direct comparison between these two systems.

I like more the 104 sound and design, and of course, price!

Hard to say wich one I like more. The song "long drive" is better on the 305P in my opinion. Sounds to me they do better on instrumental music and voices. But with the more digital music the 104 are a bit softer to listen to. The bass is sometimes a bit boxy on the 305P ,maybe not in real life? but I cant judge that very accurate through video anyways. Like on song "deep" for example the 104 seem a bit tighter? I think the 104's are nice to have as reference next to big monitor speakers. They are good for the price, just 89 euros here at the moment and thats not a lot. If you dont have a lot to spend they are decent for that price. For listining music I never do it on my studio monitors anyway, I use my big old philips 495 speakers paired with a decent amp for regular listining or some other nice speakers like JMR xo2's (those are my favourite from all my speakers). Some speakers just work better with certain music styles.

How was the JBL 104 connected may i ask please?

I have both of these speakers and reading the written review I cannot disagree with DS. Both have their place and both when placed correctly do a fine job. On the desk, especially my 1m x 50cm tabletop the 104bt really shine and sound excellent. I much prefer these over the Presonus Eris 3.5 bt 2nd gen by a country mile. The 104bt have a more mature and full sound over the Eris. JBL has done a fine job here imo and at a decent price. The 104 sound full and detailed with maybe a little EQ they sound even better and personally I really dont want another speaker on my desk, even the 305p which I have allocated to midfield work which is where I like to listen to the 305p. I have the 305p placed about 2.5m from my seating area and they fill my 5x5m room with good clear and punchy sound. I don't think I could find a more convenient set up for small to medium sized rooms than a pair of JBL 305p and the Wiim Pro Plus with decent cables and stands. Small, powerful and space saving. The 305p run super cool in fact the back panel remains cold, no heat issues with these speakers to speak of. The 104bt are pretty much the same when it comes to heat maybe just a touch warmer at the most. . The Presonus Eris 3.5bt 2nd gen have a wider soundstage than the 104bt but for my desk a wide soundstage is contrary to purpose oddly enough. I found the 104bt easier to concentrate with as the sound remained in front of me, within the immediate desk area and was not dispersed over to the left or right which the Eris do well and is great for open room playback but for a desk can be a pain. Also my desk sits in an enclave which helps keep the sound directed at me and not into the room. In regards to some people complaining about loudness then they must have been using a weak signal to the RCA/TRS input. The 104 needs at least 2vrms going into those inputs. I have my 104bt set at 2.00 oclock on the volume dial without any need to go any higher, that is plenty for a desk with my Audioquest Dragonfly Red from the PC feeding the 104bt which puts out 2vrms. Bluetooth is even louder and sounds excellent by the way, very clean. The drawback i found with the Bluetooth on the 104BT was lag when using in conjunction with KZread via the PC but certainly not a deal breaker for desktop reference monitors of this caliber and the much newer Presonus Eris 3.5bt 2d gen also has a small lag when using Bluetooth which might impact the consumer more as they are really a multimedia speaker and would probably be used more in a wireless capacity than the 104bt. The build quality of the 104bt compared to the Eris 3.5 is far superior. The 104bt are like solid giant licorice TicTacs sat upright on your desk, very sturdy and well weighted speakers with no vinyl wrap but just a hardy plastic finish. The Presounus 3.5bt build quality is good enough but the have a very thin vinyl wrap which in my experience comes off quite easily so something to be aware of there, care is needed! The 305p are also decent build quality. the back panel is nice and sturdy with no play on the switches and knob. The 305p cab is also vinyl wrapped but with a better more resilient surface and adhesion over the Eris range. Just as a side not the new Presonus Studio 5 sound a touch warmer and fuller than the 305p, a little richer to my ears but the bass on the JBL 305p is better defined by far. The added fullness from the Studio 5 maybe down to the Class A/B amp configuration over the JBL 305p class d but I don't know for sure but the Studio 5 is still a sweet sounding monitor.

heh... I just came across this vid. I have a pair of 305's in my 2nd studio... and a pair of 104's in my office. I had to chuckle when seeing the title of this vid... I like both... although I do run Sonarworks 4 in the 2nd studio... and ARC 3 in the office

I would like to suggest... if you can masquerade the name of the speaker in the video... for example, just display "Speaker A", and "Speaker B". THEN, disclose the actual speaker at the Description, or at the end of the video. That way, if I know that I always like sound from A, and I will choose that speaker. I think it will help many to minimize bias, and truly find the speaker that produce sound that we like, instead of with perception.

From all the sound demos regarding the JBL 305P MKII, this is the only one where I think the other one in this case 104 sounds better. Is this just the sound demo? I am thinking of getting my first speakers for music. I could afford both. Its about which is more enjoyable. Could you help me with that?

305P MKII is much better, also more enjoyable, monitor than 104. If You can afford 305P MKII than go for it

Could somebody help and advise if we are looking for a monitor that is a closest as possible to the source track or we are looking for a monitor that creates huge space so we can hear more sound dimensional space in order to make mixing choices. I have been to studios with chepaer studio monitors and in my opinion 1st option is might even better cause as closest as you are to the source track (sound played on a laptop or in youtube) you are closest to reality.Would like to ehar your comments on that,thanks!

JBL104 have a rounder, "truer" tone. The 305P's sound pinched and nasal in comparison.

JBL 104 would've been a good contender if it wasn't for the 4.5khz and 9khz peak making it too bright. Apart from that, Impressively flat for a small speaker.

@@DSAUDIOreview oh but I think or maybe the cut-off adjustment on its crossover makes it sound harsh over the 305MKII. But considering the price difference. It's just considerable. Edit: Just found out that the 305MKII is a bit cheaper compared to the 104 based on the prices on your posted link :o 305MKII sounds more flat and accurate for me.

@@Benson.BereTV nah never had the pleasure to work with high ends . I have had Mackie cr4s but I hated them , very tiny sound and bass was very mid sounding no low end . I like these better than cr4s that is all I have used . Sorry bro

I had 104 monitors for 2 weeks. Toy-speaker - toy-sound... no lows, no depth and boost in the top end. It difficult to work for a long time using this “monitors”. I tried them in different places: my home studio, professional studio in my city, my kitchen, my friends ' houses... I can’t recommend 104 like monitors, just good desk speakers with nice design.

Adding a DAC/Amp will help the tone. Creative Lab has inexpensive ones from $18-$60. Most people listen inexpensive speakers from their computer or phone. The sound card doesn't compare with a DAC, even a cheap one.

So, which one is the 'best? Jbl 104 or 305p mk||?

104's sounds the best in this test. Got myself a pair last week, and waaw. They're amazing! The correct placing also involves a bit with the sound. Not straight to the wall, they need some place to develop the bass coming from the back. My best buy from 2021 this far!! Best bang for the buck and they sounds amazing!!
