Alan Ross Reviews Top Picks:
Pound for pound world champion:
Soundcore Motion Boom: geni.us/motionboom
Amazingly deep bass to 40hz for its size and price.
For a leaner more agile sound with similar deep bass for the same price try the Mifa Wildbox
Still worth a look:
My former world champ the Soundcore Motion Plus can still offer great clarity.
geni.us/soundcoremotionplus
£50 champion:
Great bass for its size, Soundcore Boost: geni.us/soundcoreboost
A little bigger but a decent listen for the price BOGASING M4: geni.us/bogasingm4
Bass Heavy Speakers:
Harman Kardon Go+ (mid and upper bass heavy but with decent balance): Play geni.us/goplay
Onyx Studio 6 (warmer than the 7, maybe too bass heavy in balance): geni.us/onyxstudio6
Hi End Picks
Minirig mk3 2.2 system: geni.us/minirigmk3
Great for portable low deep kick: Onyx Studio 6 (more bass than Onyx 7): geni.us/onyxstudio6
Monitor Like openess and neutrality but lacks deep bass Audio Pro C3: geni.us/audioproc3
Best Micro Options:
Bose Soundlink Micro (warm): geni.us/bosesoundlinkmicro
Tribit Stormbox Micro (clinical): geni.us/tribitstormboxmicro
Worth a Look:
W-King T9: geni.us/wkingt9
The T9 is a reasonably loud and balanced party speaker with a big bright detailed sound.
Budget Loud Boombox: no clear winner but my pick for fun outside listen would be:
W-King X10-1 for form factor and loudness geni.us/wkingx10
W-King D9 for bass with a little smoother signature: geni.us/wkingd9
Travel Speakers:
Marshall Stockwell 2: geni.us/stockwell2
offers a decent immersive sound with full and tight bass. Beware though it does go very loud
JBL Charge 5: geni.us/jblcharge5
Only mono but has a very clear and dynamic sound at low volumes and can go reasonably loud but will become a little screechy over 80%.
Denon 250bt, no longer made but the standard for size/quality ratio for travel (battery drain issues)
Bose Soundlink Flex: geni.us/bosesoundlinkflex good bass heavy sound for its compact travel friendly size.
JBL Flip 6: geni.us/jblflip6 louder than the Bose Soundlink Flex and has better highs (though too much) but not as full sounding as the Flex.

I just bought the JBL Charge 5 this week. It’s now the best sounding speaker that I have at the volumes I listen. I’m loving the equalizer after the firmware update. I keep my EQ off for most music and voice podcasts but find +1 or +2 bass great for rock and jazz music with drums playing. Great review as always!

@@hard2findtv330 Devistated? Didn't you look up the specifications before you bought the JBL charge 5? Everything is bluetooth nowadays anyways. But if you really want a good speaker with 3.5mm audio input, try out the Sony SRS-XB43. I own two of them and sometimes use them in stereo or party mode. They sound AMAZING, and have a somewhat fuller, louder sound than the JBL charge 5 (because the Sony has 2 drivers and 2 tweeters in each speaker). When you pair them, you have 4 drivers, and 4 tweeters for pretty good sound. But you can't use stereo pairing mode while also using the audio input jack. If you use the 3.5mm audio in, you can only use it with one speaker. I use them in stereo mode on my iPhone over bluetooth.

Well...at least there's a little play room with the eq and there is some flexibility within the app that wasn't present before the update. Credit where credit is due but it's difficult for me to be too excited considering what Soundcore has been doing for less $ for quite a while (but I'm preaching to the choir). It is a promising first step, though. Hopefully, it the not too distant future they will provide more bands in the eq for adjustment and just possibly more headroom to make even more of a difference. Last but not least, thank you for another impeccable Alan Ross Review! 😁👍👏

Why I don't have a proofreader and there is an older version and writes that it is up-to-date? And as I see others have this equalizers and newer software. How about keeping the Speaker settings kind of FLAT, and using the Phone Music app Equalizer presets (there is about 20 different one on my iPhone 7+) to find the one pleasant sounding to your Ear (or to put a smile on your face like you say), at the moment, that is different depending on time of the day, your mood, type of music, loudness, etc. I find it complicated to play with so many EQ settings that get me confuse actually...

Hello there, I just bought the JBL Charge 5 and hear the bass is too strong. I use it with PC (Windows). Is it possible to change (lower the bass) it? 🤫 I do not plan to use it with phone. I see people using the equalizer on the phone, would it change the sound on PC if I changed it in the app? 🙂 (It is funny how you HAVE to have a phone even if you do not want to use it with it, I did not know it before buying) Thank you for the help. 😉

First time i ever heard say the charge 5 bass is too much 🙄 you can use any device with eq to lower or maybe get a different speaker? Stockwell 2 has tone knobs.

The reason why it was too bassy was I left it in the corner, close to the wall. Thats why it was tooo much. @alanrossreviews Thank you. It works. I used the app only twice to test it. Now, I can live without it. 😅I am happy with the speaker and its sound. 😚

Hi to all JBL Charge 5. I wanna know if i were the only one experiencing this.. I bought a brandnew jbl charge 5 and it says on the package that it has 20 hours playtime but then i tested it. It only has 8 hours playtime and then it blinks red which means the battery needs to be charged. Need to hear your thoughts about this. Thank you

This speaker has a lot more bass than the using the factory setting or the EQ. I downloaded subwoofer bass app and it had my Charge 5 thumping. The change in the bass was clearly noticeable and I could never get that kind of bass using the EQ.

Let's hope that Boombox 3 will have an EQ like the Flip 6 🤔
