JBL Basspro SL Powered Subwoofer Underseat Install 2005 Toyota Matrix (Corolla) Car Stereo

I recently installed a JBL Basspro SL powered subwoofer to improve my 2005 Toyota Matrix XRS car audio system. This is how I did it. Installing it under the passenger seat took about an hour to complete. The install process for an amplifier would be the same, with the added step of running speaker wire to the subwoofer.
Please take appropriate precautions when dealing with car electrical systems. The car battery has enough power to cause serious harm or death.
I also have a video for installation of the front door speakers: • 2005 Toyota Matrix Fro...
The one for the back door speakers: • 2005 Toyota Matrix Rea...
Since the Matrix is a hatchback version of the Corolla, this information may be useful on Cirolla models as well.
It should also be useful for Pontiac Vibe as well.

Great video, really helped me out, helping out a friend throw his jbl into a 2014 equinox

Good guide to installation, but what's your impression on the sub? Is it strong? do you still have it/like it? Cheers mate 👍

@@ricardog4459 I think that it sounds very good, but much depends on what you want out of a subwoofer. I think it's the best low to medium volume subwoofer that I have used. It adds bass without being too overpowering and seems pretty well balanced (likely due to the amp and subwoofer being made for each other). It also doesn't draw too many amps so it won't stress your alternator or battery much. However, if you want super deep, super loud or bass you can feel, it probably isn't right for you.

Awesome. Thanks for your response. I was considering getting 2 of these for each seat, to have an even sound. But I don't want to spend too much money, and I don't want the sound to be too much. Do you think one is fine?

Personally, I think I would just start with one, but I suggest pulling a power cable large enough to run two just in case you want to add a second one later without pulling a new power cable all the way from the battery. You'll want to check a chart like the one in this article: www.crutchfield.com/learn/learningcenter/car/cable_gauge_chart.html . Since this amp draws only 125W RMS, an 8 gauge power cable would likely be able to run two of them unless the cable is very long.

Awesome. Thanks for the detailed response, I had not thought about adding 1 first and see, or cable gauge needed. I'll do that. Keep up with the good work 👌

Should have cleaned your battery terminals while you were doing this!

I want to do the same with my car but I’m not all that techy. Have no clue how to do any of this without messing it up. It does seem fairly easy, but idk. I’ve installed some jbl 6.5 in my doors but I didn’t have to cut any wires, just used adapters. I wanted to stick with jbl and buy this basspro, but maybe I’ll just hire someone to install it for me.

break the job up in to different, smaller jobs. it takes practice, but you have to start somewhere. A voltmeter is your friend. before you work on the car with a skill that you are unsure of, find a tutorial and practice on just regular wire (not connected to any thing). crimping, soldering...doesn't matter, practice on stuff outside of the car before touching stuff in the car
