Anyone knows what Reeds are using Eric Marienthal Now? I read that He use Vandoren Traditional Reeds 2&1/2 but when I read the description on the vandoren's page, It says that the Vandoren Traditional reeds give dark sound, and Listening Eric, and I dont listen a dark sound, He have a brilliant sound. Sorry for my english...

I purchased a Jupiter Alto sax 700q, it cames with a mouthpiece, jupiter of course. I think that is very basic mouthpiece, do you think that a meyer mouthpiece US$90 or a Vandoren Jumbo Java of US$80 is better than mine?... I dont know if you understand me... I want to sound better , do you know how is valuate the jupiter alto sax 700q mouthpiece?

If it's not too late to give my opinion, Go with a Selmer mouthpiece, they're fantastic, personal opinion. Bit expensive though

He's the guy who played with chick corea in spain!! Sick!!
hi, i have a question, how can i tell what saxophone is playing in a tune? is it a tenor or an alto or soprano ? and what king of pitch is the saxophone I am hearing. because many times i can't figure out. i have an alto , the song perhaps sounds like an alto playing but i can't imitate the sound especially middle to high notes

Well, 2 things about your question. One, you can figure out what kind of sax is playing by just listening more. There’s not one single trick of figuring out, you just have to get used to hearing tenor players like hank mobleys sound, and alto players sound like Charlie Parker or cannonball Adderley. Second, imitating a great’s sound and tone is one of the things that will take the most work. If you think about it, they’re among the greatest whose ever played on that instrument, so you won’t get the sound they took years getting in a few days. It’s a marathon race, not a 100 yard dash, so just always listen to the people whose tone you admire, and try to replicate their sound during long tones.
Hey man that's good but listen to Earl Bostic's Up there in orbit... he goes up one octave higher

It's easier to play soprano sax than to torture the instrument not suited for the job. Many "altissimo players", the tone-deaf mob take altissimos as a kind of "pride" and "exhibit of skill". But any instrument sounds rubbish outside its optimal range and all great composers knew that. A woodwind instrument, as a rule of the thumb, plays well in ~2.5 octaves, and then all starts falling apart. For example, the oboe has the highest note a semitone lower than the Bb clarinet, but in the upper octave, the oboe sounds better.
mito!

In the 80s when Eric was much younger, playing high notes were like Kindergarten fun for him. My personal credit and gratitude go out to him magnanimously in that regard - altissimo grasp and performance accuracy thereof are mind to hold, with constant and continuous reinforcement practices. Check out Nelson Rangell, Marc Russo, Anibal Rojas, Brandon Fields, Mr. Hunter ...among many others. Thanks, Eric - again!
