    Music theory is all about taking the unconscious and intuitive emotional effect music has on us and explaining it systematically. While many people find it dry and boring, it is as much about human-ness and artistry as it is about the pure numbers or confusing terminology. When you see someone like Charles who gets super excited about this and tries to make it relatable to the average music listener, it reminds you of something like a great science communicator: someone who takes something that is usually detached, distant, and inaccessible to general people and makes it relevant, fun, and exciting.

  • @ricardofranciszayas
    @ricardofranciszayas2 жыл бұрын

    The chords in that tune remind me of songs I heard when I was a kid growing up in NYC. Knowing how much Bruno Mars loves old school Funk and R&B, I think these musicians seem to have as part of their musical DNA, the harmonic presentation and orchestrated presentation of artists like Curtis Mayfield, Marvin Gaye, Issac Hayes, The Philadelphia style arrangements that were part of the Gamble and Huff productions, etc. Definitely! Those chord changes and the hanging chords like BbΔ7/C leading to a strong FΔ7, is so much a part of the stuff I heard when I was cutting my teeth as a young musician. I’m going to have to research those songs I can’t put my finger on. It’s so encouraging to me at how frighteningly gifted some of the young musicians coming up are. Guys like yourself who know music and share their excitement about it analyze it and explain it to the public, are creating a whole new awareness of the respect gifted young players show to the music of the 1970s and 8Os. These young musicians are scary. It makes this 70 year old musician very happy that music is in good hands. I’m not the only ancient guy who loves the young musicians coming up. The young cats are so inspirational.

    Omg I found it! I was just thinking about your reaction to Leave The Door Open the other day and thinking, “Now that Skate is out, I wonder if there’s a reaction by that one guy because I really want to see that! But I have no idea what his channel is called...” And then I had a short recommended to me and re-introduced me to the channel. So that’s the story of how I made it here lol

    its just crazy how complicated concepts can be brought to the mainstream music, its like a higher level from understanding complicated stuffs. Reminds me of how Stevie Wonder creates Sir Duke and insert weird chords here and there yet still sounds familiar and easy to listen to
