I’m pretty sure, knowing nothing about Larnel’s past, he has the tiger woods type amount of training. Meaning he has probably already put more hours into learning/practice in his first 8 years alive than most adults have in their life.

Garrett you smile a lot more when you watch the jazz/fusion drummers, please showcase more of that genre. Thanks.
@findtheearth

I think it comes down to the tone of the music. This type of fusion is just so fun! Hard not to smile. I generally prefer listening to metal, but it's usually more serious, even when it's more on the bombastic side it's not as "fun".
@FanaticDrummer

@browncoat697

@@findtheearth Yeah, as someone whose two favorite genres are jazz and metal, and is usually more of a metalhead, I'm going to say that jazz is way more likely to make you just grin ear to ear. It's just more fun. Metal is just more serious, even for the bands that are smart enough not to take themselves too seriously (e.g., Anthrax).
@johnathanreyes118

Rip Steakface well it’s not only that it’s serious is that it doesn’t usually play with time signatures as much as this type of music does at least when being played live

Dude, actor? Legendary drummer alright
aw shiiit, mono neon is sick
I think the beauty of Larnell’s pocket is the sheer range of his dynamics, most of the kit stays so quiet and he just hits those accent beats so heavy. Wish more drummers could do this.
@wibblewobble1934
Жыл бұрын
He's a true musician at heart that respects ALL the instruments and allows to give them space when needed, always thinking of every aspect of the piece as a whole. But yeah, his dynamic range is just stupid good. A true god of drums.
The bassist is MonoNeo. He's crazy. Plays left handed on a right handed bass (string strung as if a normal right handed bass)

@@DragonFlopp Same here man. I've been a metal/hardcore punk guy all the way through my teens, but as I expanded my drumming vocabulary and my musical knowledge I've reached a point where almost no metal music interests me. The only heavy bands that I can listen to lately are The Dillinger Escape Plan, Car Bomb, Animals As Leaders and a few others when I'm in that specific mood, but not any thrash or braindead stuff like that. But yeah, since a few years back I've been heavily leaning onto fusion and latin, and man , it's just much tastier music and can be as agressive and abrasive as most metal

As Alan said, Jimi did indeed restring his guitar, same as Cobain et al who were lefties using righties. I've only seen this a few times and it always seems to be lefty bass players that don't bother flipping the nut and the strings.

Larnell for you and others who didn’t know is the drummer who did drums for the we live here snarky puppy album aka the album with Lingus on it. larnell learned every song on that album on the plane ride over. He’s such a beast. This just proves way more of how amazing of a drummer he is. Thanks for the reaction to this. Can’t wait for season 2

That ! Was ! Absolutely ! AMAZING !!!!! A nice change of pace on your channel. Totally Awesome. Thanks for uploading this. 👍👍
Larnell is NUTS! he's a prof at Humber college here in Canada, Toronto to be specific. he is also a straight up humble nice human.... had to audition in front of him like 5 years back and i was extremely nervous because of how into Snarky Puppy I was at the time. Big Cheers from Canada and great job exposing drummers all over to us :)
I reacted similarly when I saw Crowley too. He does the announcing at these Zildjian live gigs. Very cool! Larnell is a monster!
I've had the pleasure of working with larnell multiple times in the studio. And every time it's just a jaw dropping lesson in what is possible
Yeah dude! I am so glad you reacted to this, when this video came out on Zildjian channel, I watched it like 15 times in a row, is so good, and with your funny reactions and comments on top it's even better! Thanks man, love from Italy ❤️🥁

He is a damn beast 🔥🔥🔥
Larnell is an immensely talented beast of a player, and also one of the nicest and most genuine people I've ever met. He did a drum clinic in Montreal during the Montreal Jazz festival, and he brings so much heart and passion to his playing and teaching, and just being a good person. Unrelated: tell me how come that bass player looks like Snoop in disguise lol
“Just let me smack the shit out of these wind chimes real quick” 😂😂 dying
savage performance! It has everything going on dynamics, precision, speed, feel, creativity, fun ..have I missed anything?
Pick it apart with us! I'm too dumb to understand what's going on, tell me your thoughts. There honestly isn't enough drummer breakdowns on youtube.
You should check out Thomas Pridgen’s performance on Zildjian Live. His energy is INSANE

I think its awesome you choose something that it isn't from the metal world now and then. The music and talent are fantastic as well,and shows to some people that there's things outside the metal bubble they live in. Good job,dude

thing is with Virg you need somebody that has very high competency on the thing's he does just to comment on it otherwise you just get a "guy is baffled by Virg" video. I'm a drummer but most of the time I have no idea what Virg is doing without studying it in time consuming detail.

Yess!! Been watching a lot of Snarky Puppy and Larnell Lewis this weekend, and had this thought that this specific video would be great to have you react to, and damn it if it's not here! I guess isolation makes us telepathic? No? Would love to see more non-metal from you, and more stuff where you recommend your favourite drummers, too. 👊🥁💪
Dude, I love your enthusiasm, it's extremely infectious and just what I need right now haha. Keep it up mate, you've got a new sub in me.
As a Metalhead, I can see why you love this stuff....it's killer. I love it. Thanks for introducing me to new stuff👍
At 8:11 you can see Randy Cooke just smiling away. He's another killer Canadian drummer, and Yamaha guy....his resume is quite impressive.
That drum solo gave me chills 🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
Haha! Dude....that was awesome. Great watching it with you (feels like that anyway). Dang that was nasty! Woo!
I rewound this so many times! Especially during the solo at the end. Jeeeeeesus! "This guy's fucking good at drums." I fucking concur 🤯
I had the fortune to see Larnell play at Humber college on the regular. Anything recitals he played on had the whole music dept watching with jaws dropped.

I'm glad you got around to this one. Such a great video/performance! Larnell is such a fantastic drummer & musician. Another great video from the Zildjian live series is the new one with Matt Greiner (August Burns Red). Matt is another solid drummer. Check it out when you get a chance!
Larnell is a beast and no offence to him he deserves all the praise, but Pridgen absolutely KILLED in this zildjian video series. Absolutely murdered it
Larnell is an absolute beast! Love that solo so much, and all that ‘space’ in his playing 🔥 And that pocket, man, listen to the bass and all that slapping and popping going on…. Loved your appreciation of that track :) For another weirdly named fusion band, check out Swedish pop/jazz/funk trio Dirty Loops and their Metheny inspired track “Work Shit Out”, with some mean bass and keys playing and a fire drum solo. I’d be very, very interested in your reaction to that-! 👍 Thanks bro 🙏
Was going to recommend this! The Thomas pridgen one is enjoyable as well 🙏🏽

I’m really glad he noticed “Crowley” in the background. I thought I was crazy seeing him in this festival
I’m just laughing at how he was feeling it in the first 15 seconds...I’m thinking to myself U have no idea what’s to come. 😭
