Friends had all the right marketing. Good looking actors and actresses, good writers, better delivery, COFFEE SHOP hang out as a focal point (before the HUGE ASS COFFEE SHOP BOOM INTERNATIONALLY), and of course Fanbase. It appealed to people. Living Single was hard to watch cuz everyone was low key ugly and had cheesy delivery

So basically Friends was an artificial show about a group of people in their 40's with barely regular jobs, acting like teenagers , living in expensive flats in NY and having coffee everyday . Actors from Living Single looked like normal people, no fantasy and they were very good-looking. Have you seen the actors from Friends recently? Have you seen the actors from Living Single recently? You will get a surprise.

"Friends" was a direct rip-off of "Living Single" The producers of "Friends" actually said publically - years later - that they actually got the idea from "Living Single" - That's their own words...!!! Where most people have a problem is that they waited so long to acknowledge & to give proper credit (& compensation) to the original source.

I’d watch the black version. The casting was good. They’d obviously have better chemistry/timing after more episodes. The timing on the friends pilot was pretty meh, too.

yeah the original is ofc gonna be better, the cast had already known eachother for some time and were able to work well together, no chemistry at all in jay-z's version it all looked weird and sounded weird but watching the original was still enjoyable beside it lol

What sitcoms from the 70s can compare to really any 90s sitcoms? If it weren't for i love Lucy who's to say the Jeffersons or good times whos themes songs are still catchier than the theme music for friends.. who are you trying to fool? Lol friends was corny.. your like would have to be so perfect to understand it its comedic in that sense alone.. its not a white or black thing.. I loved tom green.. the xgames.. mtv.. when real world was on? Like how is friends more popular that REAL WORLD? HOW? tell me? I think friends signified white resistance.. like this is corny and we know it.. but this is white.. something we have to hold on to.. right? Then sep. 11... cut all that friendly bullshit out.. then more reality.. THE BEST REALITY TV... friends was literally like Seinfeld with dowmsydrom.. just as dry.. no intellect needed, like Beavis and butt head? Dari sucks but even thats more entertaining than friends.. but then again.. Fried chicken, kool-aid, and watermelon 🍉😋👌🏾 and even white women.. are all delicious to me.. so may be a cultural thing.. but friends sucks. Send me the best episode in yer opinion.. Great attention to detail from those involved, but terrible delivery (at least in comparison). What's worse, though, is all the people in the comments trying their damnedest to make it seem like the difference is just a black vs white audience. "Friends" is iconic for incorporating everyday problems that everyone faced, regardless of skin color. Yes, there are systemic problems when it comes to racial equality, but is that the fault of the show? Hardly. The common theme was having a group of friends to support one another through average, everyday challenges; and those challenges happen to everyone, regardless of skin color. Black, white, or anything between: we've all had to deal with difficult relationships, breakups, and awkward moments. While there's room to argue for equal representation in the modern day, it's unfair to say that a universal situation was unjustly represented just because a particular character didn't share your skin tone. Yes, the cast was white; but so was 62-70% of the US population in the 90's and early 2000's, so a group of six all-white friends is hardly unrepresentative of the population at large. More important than that, though, is the fact that we have much more in common than we do in difference, regardless of ethnicity or skin color. Combining that with the fact that the show tackled universal, everyday situations, and the issues of racial representation become meaningless, at least as far as the show's success and reasons for it

Random Stranger Your breakdown of friends is literally the concept of living single... I don’t understand this post. It had more to do with white people not being able to, or trying to relate to a character simply due to skin color. Not because Living single didn’t tackle the issues of an awkward date and everyday life situations. Bottomline... I love both shows too, but make sense when you try to write a think piece about the differences between the shows, it makes it seem like you didn’t even watch living single

Friends was horrible. The delivery was the same . It was horrible with them too but that was the point. Living single was the original and no one have them the credit but this non funny show got so much praise. It is different. White folks get more money and recognition even when they steal from us
