Sly? Yes. Adaptive? Better word. Genius? That may be the most loosely used word in the English language. He had something, though, clearly. Something that Lyor Cohen saw that made him convince Jay to leave Dame so he could teach him the ropes. Rap wise, I'm shocked Jay has not had this pulled off KZread. This was in 1994 when Nas dropped illmatic and a year before Ready to Die. Two peers of his who, significantly younger than him dropped magnum opuses while he was trying to get someone to notice him spitting this remedial nonsense. Seriously, look up the lyrics. 😅

Was a legend but that's just my opinion. Just listening to this and what he has been producing the past 10-15 years there is no comparison, he choose the path of money and lyrics value went down slowly but surely. He is still an amazing artist there has been some bangers along the way but i just think he lost something on the way. No hate here just my honest opinion.

Jay was the shit back when he was hungry. After he got money he went in the studio, banged out a cheap verse in one take and whatever came out made it on the album. That Reggie Miller jersey though, I can't be mad at that.

I had very low expectations for this song tbh, I never really like the old "iggity" flow he used back then prior to Reasonable Doubt, but this truly jus proves how great Hov was, he could adjust his flow with such ease, its Amazing, for ppl to not say he's a top 10 emcee they're freaking idiots
