Jay Leno Took $15M Pay Cut To Save His Crew, Confirms He Never Spent Any Of His Tonight Show Money

Комедия

Jay Leno sits down with Adam Carolla for a tear jerker interview. You'll love Jay even more after hearing this story. At the height of his time hosting NBC's “The Tonight Show,” Jay Leno reportedly earned a $30 million salary. But in 2012, he took a 50% pay cut - bringing his salary down to about $15 million, to avoid laying off some of his crew and to pay his staff better. Jay also confirms the rumor that to this day he still hasn't spent a penny of his Tonight Show earnings!

He's wealthy beyond a normal person's comprehension so he can easily absorb the pay cut however LOTS of ceos make this kind of money and would never think of taking a pay cut of any size to save their employees from being laid off, so hat's off to Mr. Leno. He sounds like a good guy.

$15mil seems like a high number 📊 even for union crew members. I'd add I've done film, set, production stuff. You'll often see 15-20-30 people stand around or hang out then "work" 5min, 10min. On a normal 10hr 12hr day, the film crew might work 90min total.

As a Union guy i know he said he voted against a paycut but still took it anyways to save his crew. Admitted they were good union people just trying to make a living and how he used to live paycheck to paycheck. He also acknowledged he already had 15 million so he would be ok with doing his side gigs. Nobody wants to take a paycut but he chose too. At any time he couldve chose a different avenue to continue his wealth building. New cable deal, couldve had the crew laid off, demanded less of a cut. But in the end he didnt so kudos to Leno from a Union worker. 👍👍

I'm not the only person, by far, who has experienced this with him. He will talk to just about anyone, and is extremely friendly. Drives around Burbank, Sherman Oaks, etc all the time, no bodyguard, no effort to conceal his identity, you can say hi to him any time and he smiles and says hi back. Most celebrities are not like this, I know from working in PR in the 90's in the area, with lots of personalities. Most of them were also decent people, but they were NOWHERE near as open and friendly as Jay is.

I have so much respect for Leno. His point though was that, since he never used any of that money, it made no difference to him whether he made $30m or $15m, and he made a lot of people's lives a lot better and gained a hell of a lot of respect from all of them. By now though, having not touched any of that money for so long, if he earned nothing but basic interest his income will be likely well over $1m per year.

Conan did something similar when NBC screwed him over after Jay left, paying his crew out of his own pocket until TBS picked up his show. NBC being dicks again…

Stephen Colbert has done VERY well for decades. So has Conan O'Brian. You just don't like their politics

@@Thehandsomeliberal Comedy's not about politics. Like Norm Macdonald said, the moment your lampoons are based in political disagreement it's not funny. When you say "they've done well" I would point at alot podcasts have more ratings. People are tired of the vitriol. Let's keep comedy a sacred place where anything goes but it's not a tool to use against the other guy.
