As a kid I've always loved ventriloquism but when SOAP came on with Chuck & Bob it further added to my love for it..I even do my own ventriloquist shows and actually have a replica of Bob made by the man who built the original

I met Jay and his wife Sandy when they were working for Charles Meeker at Charlie's Place in downtown Ft. Worth in the late 70's or early 80's. Two of the nicest people you would ever want to meet. I always loved Sqeaky in the guitar. His roof had a hole in it and he might drown!

Best there ever was! I was in awe of his abilities as a ventriloquist. The writers took full advantage of it too and came up with outrageous storylines for him (them).

Now, that would have been funny as hell to see Bob turning state's evidence against Chuck....LOL... I can imagine how that would have played out....LOL... But, I am glad that Susan Harris changed the script and kept them on.

I still can't get over the fact that people can't figure out how Bob knew what the objects were. When they did the read-through of the script during rehearsals, Bob could not have been blindfolded, as he would have needed his eyes open to read the script. So he would have quite easily been able to see to read that it was firstly an ashtray being held up, and then an apple. It's the people that don't get this that are the dummies, not Bob!

Also resembles the ventriloquist sequence in the anthology film Dead of Night. I like the idea of Chuck and Bob being the killers of Peter Campbell. It's so strange that it would have fit into the logic of the series. Sounds more plausible than Corrine's devil baby.

That answers my question if these characters were inspired by either the book or the film. I cannot recall if Soap came out first or the film. It's still a very creepy film and Anthony Hopkins gives a great performance as both Corky and as Fats the dummy. It's only recently rewatching clips of Chuck and Bob that I noticed the similarities. I haven't seen the series in a very long time time and cannot recall how the storyline of Chuck and Bob is resolved. Does Chuck finally realise that Bob is not real and gets psychiatric help? The separation between Corky and Fats does not go very well.
