This has been years in the making, these “student athletes” are athletes that do some studying. The majority of the time for a college football player is spent weight traing, eating high protein diets, rehab/physical therapy, studying tape, individual drills, and practice. there are many majors they are not allowed to do because they are too time-consuming, as in the Arian foster case wanting to study biochemistrymajor or neuroscience was neglected because it took too much time. Basically football is more I,portent and comes first. A large power five program will make 50 million dollars across-the-board at schools like Texas Nebraska USA Michigan and the players if they are in state get a $60,000 scholarship that $15,000 a yearwhich I can make at at McDonald’s. That is not equal compensation. They are professional athletes for the school and should be treated as much. Also sports aren’t equal the same way the Yankees aren’t fair in baseball, life isn’t fair. Pay the players, let them do commercials and sell merch like any KZreadr.

I mean the fact that the NCAA did not allow the schools to give the players any sort of food or drinks before was crazy.

They absolutely should be able to do this just like anyone else there age. And I would be willing to bet we will see some very successful professionals that started here and didn’t go pro. Like a new athletic apparel from someone who only played college. That’s a good thing for this world.

Jay- do you think it has always been fair that Coach K gets a large fee from sneaker company every year? Why should a college coach get a fee to outfit players? Why?

I think in places like Nebraska you need to be careful what you ask for, just look within their own division. For example the Univ of Minn, they have the 13th largest media market in the US with no other Div 1 programs to compete with. They have the 7th largest Metro market in the US when it comes to Fortune 500 revenue ($562B in 2020) with 10 Fortune 500 companies. Not that the Fortune 500 will drive NIL revenue, but does speak to how big the Minneapolis business market is and the level of success. Long story short, there's a lot of money in the Mpls/St. Paul market.

So how do you do it equitably? There is going to be a lot of animosity in the huddle if a guy is making more than another guy, But the guy making less is having a better year. What about the gals? Title 19 still has to be adhered to. If they aren't making bank they will whine. How much more will a star at Bama make vs a star at North Dakota State? The rich (bluebloods) will get richer as most will want to play for them vs Ball State. The G5 schools will suffer even more talent wise.

NIke EYBL should make a Junior Club basketball league during the season. OTE is hype but if NIKE gets a Junior basketball league going NCAA is officially done. NFL needs a D-league also. Stop the neo-slavery in the NCAA basketball and football conferences.

I'd be fine with developmental leagues, I just don't think they would ever generate the revenue that college sports do. Say whatever you want about the money making potential of the athletes... a big part of the NCAA revenue stream is tradition... generations of a family attending and rooting for a particular school... the student sections going nuts at home games... A Nike junior basketball league or NFL D-league is just minor league baseball... it's a big 'meh' to the general public. In no way is it the same thing with the same passionate fan base. The Ann Arbor Argonauts Brought to you by Under Armor would never make as much money as the Michigan Wolverines... even if the Michigan Wolverines had to settle for a bunch of 2nd tier players that aren't worth the "minor league" contract offered by Under Armor or Nike or whoever. Also let's not forget that this "neo-slavery" argument only applies to the very top-tier elite athletes in football and basketball. The vast bulk of NCAA athletes are technically taking advantage of the schools, getting a free education while their sport loses money.

This is bad for college athletics, it will cause a divide among the players. Running backs receivers, quarterbacks and certain defensive players will make good money, but the role players and offensive lines will not make as much. Jealous will split teams, coaches are going to earn that check now.

@@rickybastien92 That's incorrect. In all professional team sports there is a minimum salary. So, everyone is getting paid something. In this scenario with NIL, a player like Tebow could be pulling in $5 million while his lineman makes nothing. That is horrible for sports.

@@brandonthomas6815 no its not, a "role" player will at least know they are getting a full ride to play the sport. If their ego is too fragile to realize that a more marketable player is going to get better compensation, then they're in for a rude awakening in the real world.

@@itisnottaken4444 You do realize that Olympians even today are still considered Amateurs, but have been allowed to get paid via NIL since 1971 according to the IOC. And the IOC like the NCAA DON'T HAVE TO PAY THEM SQUAT DIRECTLY. People thought the International Olympic Committee would go extinct (like you with the NCAA and college sports), ahem where are we 50 years later? Olympics are still here perfectly fine. So wake up and look at how the olympics are doing. Go ahead and fire back. I'll wait.
