They're outstanding musicians, aren't they? The anonymity thing is multifaceted. On one side, there's a whole lore behind the band with Vessel being visited by a deity called Sleep in a dream, who henceforth uses him as a tool of communication through music. The music is a form of worship, too, so a Sleep "token" implies the band itself is an offering to the deity. The other members are also vessels that go by II (drums), III (bass), and IV (guitar). The story itself is veiled behind metaphors and symbolism, which leads to a whole lot of theories as fans try to decode different parts of the story. On the other side, Vessel has only done one interview since the band's inception and in it, he's asked about the anonymity and his answer is simple: They exist because of Sleep and their role is to spread Sleep's message, so the focus should be on the music and not the people making it. By removing their identities, they put the music front and center in a way. There's a whole lot more to it, but that's at least some of the gist. Forgive me for not remembering what you've listened to thus far by them, but if you haven't done Aqua Regia, Ascensionism, or Take Me Back to Eden (title track of their most recent album), they're an entire vibe like Granite. Ascensionism and Take Me Back to Eden, in particular, are masterclasses in prog and experimental composition in my eyes. They manage to create complexity out of simplicity and that takes something special that few artists have. Really enjoyed your reaction!

@@bobcieslinski I do think there's another facet where anonymity helps Vessel be vulnerable, as many of the songs deal with pain of some kind (desperate yearning, toxic relationships, self-harm, etc...) without explicitly referring to the lore. There are actually a few that always make Vessel cry during performances (you can't see his face, but you can hear it in his voice/breaths). So, while the songs they've released CAN be interpreted in a lore-friendly way, they can ALSO be heard as Vessel sharing deeply personal experiences. It's incredibly clever writing (and beautiful too).

New one for me, but although outside of my usual listening, this one made my playlist. That kind of sums it all up :) I did enjoy how it all built up, and then relinquished the music back to just a small beat of time. BTW, I may have given you the wrong link in my other comment, the Pink Floyd Comfortably Numb cover is below. I guess she is a Korean somewhat of a prodigy as she plays every instrument. Her cover of Led Zep's Stairway to Heaven was pretty incredible as she matched tones up plus instrumentation. I'm not much of a cover listener, but she is way up there. Anyways, the link is: kzread.info/dash/bejne/lq6Y2q57nZyrmJc.html I look forward to some more Sleep Token, I know nothing about them but this song was great!

Yeah they are newer to me too. I done a few of their songs Guy and they are completely unique. To me they are hard to pigeon hole into just one genre. The music flows through several changes and each section is almost like a song itself. The lead singer is called Vessel and each guy in the band is called vessel just with a different number. But wow they seek out shows and get top dollar too. A ton of talent. Thanks for the link. I’ve got it on the list.
