He does. I got to hang out w him & his wife back when she was very pregnant - maybe around 2009.. just incredibly sweet & genuine the both of them. Javier has an extremely powerful & disarming presence in person. One of those that shines far MORE in person than he does on camera… whereas I’d say 98% of Hollywood it’s the other way around in my experience. I was around most of them at one time or another, & when everyone in the room is somebody hugely famous- you see how few of them actually shine or even stand out. This couple did, but especially Bardem.

Franco's was a bona fide fascist dictatorship, one that made it just fine through WWII because Spain did not participate and the US saw him as a good ally in the Cold War. Franco came to power in the 1930s after nationalist forces waged a civil war against a democratically elected leftist government, and won that war with outside military help from the Nazis. He ruled until his death in the 1970s, and his successors were sufficiently weakened to allow the return of democracy. What was ridiculous was that Colbert himself wasn't informed about Bardem's parents, and thought that the bad part about the communist witch hunt in the 1950s was people being _accused_ of being socialists - as if persecuting people were okay if they were actual leftists.

@@ricksimon9867 Ian Fleming was a very imaginative author. Great descriptions, detail and use of language. I stopped watching the movies once they were not his books. They became more outlandish and silly. Javier Bardem would make any role he plays work. He’s a great actor.

Bardem played the character of Reinaldo Arenas, almost winning an Oscar. After this, Bardem flew to Havana to make it clear that one thing was his acting job and another was his ideology. Later, as a Bond villain Bardem parodied his portrayal of the character Arenas. Since then Bardem deserves less respect to me as an actor.

He is such a great actor, very huge talent and very kind person... BUT in Spain he uses to talk about politics, he criticizes rich people and demand more and more left politics like raising taxes, when he is actually a rich guy who does NOT live in Spain right now. He and his family had this restaurant in Madrid and they just fired all the staff and closed without paying any settlement to them, and that's the kind of things that he always criticizes about businessmen. Great actor, nice person, wrong message to people.

As far as I know Franco overthrew a democratic elected republic and not a communist dictatorial state. Oh, wait, yes, that's what happened for 40 years after that. The only thing to thank Franco is to having kept Spain underdeveloped and for the prohibition of free press and speech. No one wants to live under a communist dictatorship, but a fascist dictatorship is to no extent better.
