He wasn't as good IN-GAME dunker than VC. He is a great break away dunker, but Vince dunks on great defenders. Probably has best in-game dunks (arguably) of all time. J-Rich did some but not as much as VC. Besides VC got the total package as a player. Thats why casual fans are more familiar with VC rather than J-Rich. Personally, J-Rich is a better SLAM DUNK CONTEST dunker. Those he made before the final dunk were more spectacular than what VC did. Combine those from what he also did in 2003. Especially the inbetween the legs finale. Best one to date.

This was 20 yrs ago already!? Damn I'm getting old. Looking back at this, we didn't appreciate him as much because after the Vince Carter phenomenon, the standard was set and they would compare the dunkers to how they're sub-par compared to VC. We forget that this man won it multiple times too. The way he cocked those dunks with speed and power. Damn! He's the original J-Rich. I hate that they call Josh Richardson the same way. He's one of the few players I liked because he could dunk it well and shoot the 3. Guys like Carter, Finley, Stackhouse, T-Mac etc. I enjoyed them on NBA live 00-05 they all got the dunker and 3pt icons. Classic

Underrated AF dunker. Top 5 Dunk contest dunkers imo.

I like that how only runs for 2-3 steps on some of his dunks. Almost like he's just bs around, and all of the sudden he's pulling out all kinds of magical shit in the middle of the air.

Yes, his last dunk here has never been attempted by another dunker, that's so insane and original.

For me what really sets him apart from the group is ... nobody else just be chillin talkin mess to his boys one second, then all of a sudden spin around and pull off a classic dunk the next. Much Respect J Rich Spartan Dawg!!!

Nah. Vince only competed in one dunk contest to J-Rich's 3. J-Rich spent all year planing what dunks he would do, while Vince made his up on the spot. If Vince lived for the dunk contest and planed all year, and if Vince was in three dunk contests, Vince would have made J-Rich look stupid.

I went to school with jason richardson at Nouvel catholic central high school in saginaw. When the classes competed the only Competition, the freshman won was the dunk contest. He did a three sixty double pump reverse slam. It was epic All of us freshmen got on our feet and flicked off the seniors. I had a few classes with him too he was a really awesome Person.

Vince Carter gets a lot of praise, as he should, but JR was that dude too for multiple years

Oaktowns finest ,,JR - most underrated player period .

Jordan and richardson are the only dunkers who really struck a pose while dunking, which gave their dunks a certain accent. They are also the only ones that understood the illusion given when the body is twisted a certain way and at a certain time in the air. Carter lavigne and the other guy who ppl say got robbed didnt have this quality even though they are all amazing dunkers. Richardsons last dunk is one of the best and most beautiful dunks i have ever seen from any dunker, nba or outside the nba, and its never really mentioned.
