Jason Kidd recalls infamous moment he spilled drink on the court while coaching Nets | The Jump

Спорт

Jason Kidd shares what he was thinking when he asked a Brooklyn Nets player to run into him and spill his drink on the court when the team has no timeouts. Kidd and the rest of The Jump crew share a laugh as the tactic almost worked, but ultimately cost Kidd a $50,000 fine. Stephen Jackson also fondly remembers an incredible story how Mike Bibby's mom brought him to the Phoenix Suns arena to play pickup basketball and try out for the team, which resulted in the team selecting Jackson with the 42nd overall pick in the 1997 NBA draft.

That story with Stephen Jackson, that was more than 20 years ago. For Kidd to remember those things about a guy like Stephen Jackson, who to Kidd would've been a random insignificant kid playing basketball, says a lot about the kind of memory Kidd has. That's why he was such a brilliant Point Guard and why everyone considers him a savant, he memorized and knew every play, how to attack every kind of defense, tendencies and preferences for every teammate, etc.

leo The NBA coaching is more about making competing egos, and goals, fit into a team. The real greats are like Kerr, Jackson, and Riley; where they can get guys to work together for a common goal, even to the detriment of their personal goals. That’s what separates them from just good “X and O’s” coaches like Brad Stevens, who has great sets on-the-court. But, he can’t get his star’s, and budding star’s, egos to mesh together. Stevens is an amazing College coach, but without those interpersonal skills; his best fit is going to be a small market team without a bona fide superstar on it.

Jason Kidd is under rated. One of the best point guards in NBA history. Not from scoring but from how he can make the worst teams and even bench players playoff contenders while he is on the court or while he was coaching. If you can take a mid card team with no chance of playoffs and bring them to the playoffs every year. Doubling everyone score through play setup, etc. Your doing your job as a point guard / coach. I'm happy he had playoff team his final years to get at least one well deserved ring.

With no athleticism and just his brain, Kidd was a triple double machine without today facilitating rules ... I'll always think Kidd triple-doubles are more impressive than Westbrook's or harden's, and I'm a Westbrook fan!
