After the Bourne trilogy everybody tried to copy this incredible action thriller and failed. It's not just about crashing cars and killing people. It has to have a good story, compelling characters and great execution.

That's actually pretty easy if you take the time to learn how things work, first. He already knows which day and part of day (PM), he checks that directly, looks at the intervals, checks his watch, good to go. If you're slightly good with numbers you can ID the logic suite in a second. Pretty much everything of what he does can be learned easily with training and that's what made this movie so deep and realistic for the time. Same thing when he takes the paper to fight, Buddy, latino gangs in prison use paper to make batons and sling shots. I learned to fight with a folded piece of paper when I was 11, playing around with my gang banger friend. (we we're held up in some amusement park security, found a bunch of plasticised pamphlets and started play fighting. We made several holes in their walls. lol, security was like wtf). Now ofc "Jason Bourne" as a character is also extraordinarily smart, mentally active and physically strong (thats the unreal part, you can't be all, its biologically impossible to be strong AND smarter than the rest, just cant happen, if you spend time on extra strength you're loosing time on smarts) The rest is just training and knowledge. Basically what they do with Characters like Bourne is mix several jobs into one. The tech guy, the assassin, the strategist and the admin. Which in reality is down right impossible to master and apply all at once. The assassin CANNOT know or deal with everything if he wants to be successful, the Admin/supervisor cannot take decisions on the spot, he needs to go through an important process of decision making, etc etc etc. I know a bit of all these worlds, enough to know you cannot be a specialist of more than 1. And that's why these jobs are separated, they are often incompatible or conflicting interests (ex: as a handler you might have to send an agent to his death without him knowing, or you might have to kill someone without people ever knowing who did it, so you literally clean 1 by 1 all those who hold a small piece of the puzzle but not enough to get the big picture) Just looks more cool in movies. Did you knew over 200 000 people worked on the Atom bomb without ever knowing what they did? That's what you can intelligence work. Setting up the table to achieve a very important goal without ever letting anybody know exactly what's going on. Except a very few select administrators who wouldn't be able to kill a fly probably. They are just schemers. And trust me, they earned their position they are a thousand times smarter than you and me when it comes to strategy and planning. These people can deal in GENERATIONS not Years or timelines. Yet you would probably beat the sh out of them on a 1v1. sorry for the essay haha love writing

I usually hate having the sides of a 2.35:1 aspect ratio film cropped off. But I think it adds something to these scenes. It feels even more claustrophobic and intrusive. Taking this already distinct visual style and making it feel even more separate from traditional Hollywood action... well... of that time, anyway.
