Jared Hires Death Preliminary Accident Analysis

Jared Hires Death Preliminary Accident Analysis #scuba #podcast
This week, I’m going to be covering the death of Jared Hires who was a very well known and loved member of the diving community and general manager of Dive Rite who died this week on a dive in the Plura Cave system in Norway which is the same cave system as the 2016 documentary Diving into the unknown where a team of divers risk their lives and legal repercussions to recover the remains of their friend who also died in the cave system.
Now, I’m going to be reading through the DAN preliminary accident analysis and explaining anything that may be complicated but, lets start with Jared himself.

Thank you. We can always learn from these tragedies. Like you mentioned, I thought oxygen toxicity. It appears that rebreathers now are very safe. Thanks again and we feel for the family. 😟

#Askmark Mark i see there are some 300 bar carbon fiber cylinders available. Are they suitable for scuba diving, do you see them at all? Will dive shops fill them or are they too tough on compressors?

I used to fill CF cylinders for a local Fire Dept. and they used to float like a balloon. CF cylinders are much more buoyant that Steel or Al cylinders, they have defined lifespans and they're pretty fragile in comparison. Their main benefit for divers is that they're lightweight on the surface but, if you need to carry extra lead to get down it offsets that benefit
