Jared Bernstein on Inflation, The Federal Reserve

Jared Bernstein, Chair of the Council of Economic Advisers, breaks down the recent data showing softer growth and hotter inflation, and if there should be any concerns over consumer sentiments. He states that the economy is still very strong and shares his thoughts on how he sees inflation coming down as the Federal Reserve is no longer hiking interest rates. Jared Bernstein speaks with Kailey Leinz and Joe Mathieu on Bloomberg's "Balance of Power."

People try to predict the economy not realizing it is a command economy, central planning! my question is, instead of having much cash in bank that could lose value to inflation, do I invest in stocks or buy gold to safeguard and grow my wealth?

gold to me is an inflation hedge for long term, but not profitable in the short run. luckily some folks find solution in financial advisors

Right, the role of advisors can only be downplayed but not denied. At first hand experience, my 6-figure portfolio has compounded over 300% since covid outbreak late 2019, summing up nearly $1m ROI as of today.

His undergraduate degree is in music and his PhD is in social work. Some how, some way he ended up as Biden’s chief economic advisor. I need a scotch, a bourbon and a beer.

One doesn't need qualifications as long as they are in bed with the right people. That's the sad reality of things and it's not just bureaucracies. That lovely Marketing VP in your company who just walked past is probably sleeping with the CEO and has no idea what's happening in her department. The IT Director who just joined is a cousin of the CIO. Cronyism and nepotism are far more common than what we think.

Real consumer spending is being done through continued rampant consumer debt creation at historically high interest rates. The brunt of GDP growth has been on the backs of continued high levels of consumer and federal debt creation (with that debt being only serviced). That's not sustainable.
