Japanese Wood Carving Skills and Techniques | The Most Incredibly Fast Yet Satisfying Carving Ever

Тәжірибелік нұсқаулар және стиль

Hello Folks,
A few months ago, many viewers emailed me to express their interest in traditional Japanese carpentry, to show the most amazing view of traditional technology and its importance to present life. We decided to make a video about: "Japanese Wood Carving Skills and Techniques | The Most Incredibly Fast Yet Satisfying Carving Ever"
1. Basic Wood Carving Techniques: Thin-Walled Peony
2. Gegyo - Gable pendant
3. Edo Wood Sculpture - 江戸木彫刻
#woodworking #japanesecarving #fastwork
I edited the script, rewrote the content, new voices were recorded, new effects work, new music, new footage added and a new creation is created.

It always amazes me how sharp Japanese craftsmen get their tools. It's like a whole other level of sharpness.

Has a lot to do with the type of wood, you won’t glide through oak or hickory like that.

@@fuertesoy Usually Japanese carvings are made from domestically sourced Japanese camphor, paulownia, or zelkova wood. If you compare these woods on a wood hardness scale you could probably approximate the type of wood from your area. Keep in mind that Japanese carving tools are made from metals designed for use with those woods and also sharpened accordingly to derive the optimum effectiveness of their tools. Watching a Japanese artist/craftsman work is like watching a symphony. The output is also as beautiful.

@Brandon You'll find that laminated steel is basically every cutting device is made in Japan. From chisels to kanna blades, katana to yanagiba(and other knives), axes to scissors and even hammers including many more I've probsbly missed. A very common method among those. Japanese tools in general are usually really well made and super nice to use, the attention to which craft it's going to be applied to is always looked at as it's most likely been the same for hundreds of years for the crafts they've been made for doing. So alot of time has been put into what you're using. I love jaoanese tools, they just have a different wholesome feel to them.
