Japanese Town to Block View of Mount Fuji to Tackle Overtourism

Japanese Town to Block View of Mount Fuji to Tackle Overtourism
The Japanese town of Fujikawaguchiko has decided to erect an eight-foot-tall mesh barrier to obstruct the view of Mount Fuji. The barrier will be installed next week in front of a convenience store. The viewpoint offers a striking contrast between its neon-lit facade and the serene backdrop of the scenic mountain. However, badly behaved foreign tourists have been overcrowding the place and disregarding the town's rules and regulations. In March, authorities said they would begin charging hikers $13 from July for using the most popular route to climb Mount Fuji. Japan's highest mountain, which is covered in snow most of the year, draws more than 220,000 visitors each July-September climbing period.

I thought Japan has left side drive. At 1:22 the drone footage shows right side traffic at the amusement park. Please explain this.

If you already know how traffic goes in Japan, why should you get an explanation about the video? It's obvious that, for whatever reason, the video has been shown inverted. Don't you have anything else to do with your life than asking silly questions?

Why not impose access control and entry permit to foreigners. This way they get to make money and help maintain the place.

Limit the number of Visas given in the year. That will stop tourists. don't ruin your own country's natural beauty, even if its just a viewpoint.

@@mfreak1126 That usually depends on the Tourists. Today's tourists have agendas. They do their homework before visiting a country. Plus, once a govt starts giving other places a priority, tourist places start feeling left out. (maybe not Japan, but most other countries). tourist places generate revenue, so If a place becomes popular, Govts usually promote that place to sing-yang and back.

In Hawaii, would you take a picture of an ABC store with Diamond Head in the background? The influx of foreign tourists is partly due to certain travel influencers proclaiming, 'You must visit this place in Japan. Wise travelers, however, would seek out more meaningful landscapes to appreciate.
