Japanese React to Suspected Suicide of Top Actor Haruma Miura | STREET INTERVIEW

On July 18, 2020, the famous Japanese actor Haruma Miura was found dead in his home. Although investigations are still under way and nothing has been confirmed yet, the police found a suicide note that has lead them to suspect his death as a suicide. His death sent shock waves through Japan, where around 20,000 people were reported to have taken their own lives in 2019. So how do the people of Japan feel about this particular incident and the issue of mental health in general? We hit the streets of Japan to find out.
Mental health and online harassment are serious issues, and nobody should have to live in fear of getting help. If you or anyone you know are even in the slightest way contemplating suicide, we encourage you to seek help ► en.wikipedia.org/wiki/List_of...

His parents divorced when he was young. He only met his biological father a few times. His mother is part of a cult and has immensely large debts. He has been forced to pay off his crazy mother's debt. What's worse, is his agency takes 60% of all of his salary. He said on articles and shows "even though I work so hard, why don't I have any money." He lived in a 1DK tiny apartment. He wanted to quit the disgusting Japanese entertainment industry when he was in his young 20s, and went abroad to London to study English. But his agency AMUSE called him saying "come back to Japan and work. Studying English is a waste of time." He seemed like such a good person and pure. It's so so sad that he was crushed by awful people.

Similar happens in my country Sushant Singh is great actor as Haruma Muira Some say it was sucide but there is no sucide letter to prove that. Some speculated that it is murder by someone from Bollywood industry Where there is only one problem? It is Nepotism and it means those who parents have been great or famous actors they will get respect in film industry while others who are newcomer to films industry and have no experience with film industry they will have the same respect as them get But Sushant Singh was talented and great actor some are envy of him from actor and actress of the same industry. Rest in peace Sushant Singh and you will get justice.

He said that the hardest part was that many Japanese would share their deepest struggles and problems to him. That many would go there to have someone to talk to, not specifically to practice their English. Because Japanese knew that Americans are more open about talking about those things. The guy had a good heart because he was concerned that he couldn't help them because he is not a therapist. I don't remember the blogger, and the video is probably more than 10 years old. In Japan, if there was no suicide note, it would be treated as a suspicious death, and the mass media reported it as if there was a suicide note, but in the end it turned out to be a lie. And even though there was no suicide note, no autopsy was performed, and it was reported that he committed suicide 50 minutes after his death. man, i swear asian mentalities are the most toxic to one's self. i say this because as a chinese-american, i was raised in a very "rational" household. i suffered from depression in my early teens lasting until just recently. the idea of talking to others about their problems are often looked with disregard or belittling. the only thing we get from sharing our problems is shame. i remember the first time i tried to share my problems, my older brother immediately said "why are you sad though? you live in a house, you have a loving family. there's absolutely no reason for you to feel this way." almost as if i've offended him by saying i was depressed. so i'm not surprised when a few people from the video said they felt like they were bothering others if they ever had the chance to share their emotions. japan is only nice at face value, but underneath, they're just like any other human being.

What your brother said is honest and true. It's exactly why we always suggest people to talk to others when they're depressed. It opens your mind and widen your eyes. You may not like what you hear but that's what you need to learn, ie. that's a lotta version of the world, only you can decide which one you live in. He was just reminding you to focus on what you have already and not what you want to have. People can say tons of things to comfort you, but that's for the ears only, it means nothing. You feel good in this moment, nice, but what about tomorrow? next week? next month? Comforting doesn't help you get out of depression. Honest opinion does. I don't know what's the issue that's troubling you. NO ONE can help you but yourself. Get up, pin point the issue, get a solution. Every problem has a solution. Solution means nothing if you don't act. I spent 20+ years change my life. I failed, fell back in the hole, many times, got back up, then tried again. It still suck in a way, but I'm in a much better place than before, and I'm proud of myself coz I did this all by myself. Like in the video, 10 people has 10 different life. Don't expect others to understand you, no matter how good they're as a listener, how compassionate they are, they can empathize, but they don't feel or understand your struggles. And most of all, it has nothing to do with your family is Asian or not. They don't say something you like to hear, so they're evil? Your brother's opinion is truly gold. You owe him a thank you actually.

What they don't realize by saying "you should be grateful" is that we really truly are grateful even to the point of thinking ourselves to be undeserving of everything. (you probably felt like that sometimes in your life, you might've just not identified that with being you) when you are/stay in that spot, there will be a solution and a way for every problem. when you operate at your real level, life becomes... feasible, doable, nothing that seems too hard to do, because your motivation is ultimate. (it's usually outside opinions that dissuade us from being us, that's why it's important to be honest with oneself, that way, your confidence in yourself won't be shaken by anyone.) just remember that only you can understand you, because only you had the exact life path of you, so you are/have literally the solution to all your problems. That's why I say, outside opinion is only relevant to an extent (many times not at all) to you. It's important because then you have something to relate to, so you don't feel alone, floating in space, but you will do that for some time, until you find people that vibe with you 😊 make no mistake, the people in your life NOW, vibe with how you are NOW. when you become yourself, there's always gonna be loss. it is what it is. we have to learn to walk our path. it's ours to walk, and where we may go, some will not follow. so expect to lose friends maybe even family members. but you have to make a choice: you have this life, don't worry whether there's another before, another after.. you are here now. this is your life. do you live it for yourself or for others? 😊 answers will come when you expect them least, don't worry if you don't understand something right away. and remember, for every space in your life that becomes vacant, life finds a way to fill it again😉

Well, I would argue that this is rather circumstantial. If my best friend critized me for certain things I might have said or done wrong, I would of course listen and try to take 'respsonsibility' and think twice about doing the same thing in the future, for instance. If it's a stranger on the internet, it's an entirely different situation -- but again, that also depends on the context and on the behaviour of each party.

Distract yourself, talk to a stranger if you have nobody. Strangers saved my life when my friends abandoned me when I became homeless... but now, I can't believe it, I finally live in a room of my own. Make others happy to feel happy yourself. Being them the reason of the problem gets it harder to face it. Home itself can be a place for healing, if not it can be one that is your heaviest problem. Whatever happens, it's important to remember that our lives matter. I think the film 'It's A Wonderful Life' taught me this lesson better than anything else. We may think ourselves to be worthless and insignificant, however we don't really know what impact our lives have on others and what it would be like if we weren't here. It is excruciatingly painful to hear of these lethal decisions people make. We should all look carefully around us to see the beauty of this world and this life and take pleasure in small joys such as a walk with a friend, a day out in the nature... We should appreciate small pleasures and our lives in general. Let us all take care of ourselves, people close to us and those who we encounter.

I feel like people are missing the most essential point. Taemin constantly said about Jonghyun that he couldn't be truly himself. One or two of the people here said the same about Miyura. I keep hearing people go 'omg he was so nice. ' and I realize you mean well I get where you're coming from but for one do only 'nice and good natured polite' people have the right to live? What about the ones who suffer from mental disorders and lash out and get angry and do impulsive things like random sex and drugs? No human is completely nice or polite or free from vice. Idolizing people causes celebrities to be forced in certain categories. And one more thing, what happened to innocent until proven guilty? I stopped watching Higashide ever since I heard even though usually I separate the artist from their work. This time because he was in one Crows franchise movie with Miyura I felt it more personally. But when Miyura supported him its not that I believe H is innocent, I just believe Miyura wasn't lying. Sometimes people especially friends and lovers only show us one side and because we're close we believe them. Maybe it was just that. We don't know, like I said innocent until proven guilty. Think about this the next time you label someone nice.

This is so devastating :( I'm a fan of his and met him in person at a restaurant I worked at one year, about 3 years ago. He was very affable, and had a relaxed energy about him without pretenses. I read that he was hindered by personal issues and displayed depressive thoughts even in his letter from ten years ago. Wish he had help and pursued interests he really wanted to. I think his professionalism and tatemae hindered him from expressing his burdens. Hope you're more free in another life..

I talked to a random Japanese person on twt 1 yr ago after finding the same interest on a twt post. We talked for hours until we talked about the plans you want to do in the future but strangely his/her plans stopped after working a year in a company. When I asked him/her why she/he just plans to work for a year.. I thought that person is just planning to have a vacation that's why but he/she told me she just wanted to live only until 32 years old. I didn't know a certain people think like that. When I asked why she/he said he/she just wanted to finish education and work for a year then take his/her own life. Never in my life did I know someone who talks so casually when talking about taking their lives, so I was stunned. I tried talking and persuading him/her but he/she said that's what he/she really wants. As a Asian myself, suicide is really common nowadays and I always take it very seriously. So I tried talking to him/her about it everyday until one day he/she deactivated his/her account. I wonder where that person is or if that person's doing good. I hope that person's still striving tho..

A lot of times, the warning signs of poor mental health can be invisible or hidden. It's important for us to take steps to destigmatize mental illness so people can get the help they need, because it is real, it is present, and it needs to be addressed and treated accordingly. Though I don't know much about him, Miura must have been a great man. I hope he rests in peace.

I was listening to Laughter by Higedan then, then I started crying without responding to any messages of my friends, didn't contact someone until the next day. I was so heartbroken. 11:19 Believe me, as an American, in the United States there still is very much a stigma if it’s known you’re seeing a therapist and/or seeing a psychiatrist for anti-depressants. People can be so dismissive of another person’s pain that they personally haven’t experienced. If there are any cultures that make it easy to openly talk about struggles with depression without judgment, I haven’t heard of them.

"She was 19 at the time, so it was really tragic. She could have a brighter life and take so much experience if she did not take her own life." This made me choke. These words were what I told myself a few years ago when the my life was so miserable and it feels like I was invisible to the people around me. It was painful and so difficult, enough for me to consider ending my life at such a tender age, 19 yo. My religion forbids suicide, so I hold myself hard enough just to obey my religion. I kept telling myself, if I survive this cloudy and endless storm, who knows that my future could be brighter and maybe I could turn out to become a better version of myself. And thankfully I did. I'm glad I did not kill myself back then. If I did, I would not be able to graduate with flying colors, work near to my family home, meet my bestfriend and enjoy listening to music that I love. So guys, help yourself, seek for help and be hopeful. The choice is in your hand so, I wish the best luck to you.

@@everythingreview767 I also had that kind of negative thoughts. I was so pessimistic abt everything. The world and people will never ever understand my pain, my wound and my scars. I even had a few failed suicide attempts. I almost lost my life for quite a few times. But one day, one thing came across my mind. Why did I fail my every suicide attempts? That lingered for quite a while tho. I guess, a tiny bit of my soul want to live. That tiny part desperately saved me at the my most suicidal moments. It is not that I am completely freed from these mental problems, it is just that I've learned how to live, befriend with them. That is why I said, seek for help, seek the right person to help you. The choice is in your hand after all. It depends on your willingness and determination to fight for yourself. If you choose to continue solely blaming the world, people and the society for all the problems you had, it seems like you choose to have a miserable life. Your fate, your destiny, your life are depending on choice and decision you make.
