JAPANESE ATROCITIES IN CHINA WORLD WAR II PROPAGANDA FILM 71882

Warning: this film contains graphic images that may not be suitable for all viewers. Discretion is advised.
Produced in 1938 by the United Council for Civilian Relief in China, an organization led by Theodore Roosevelt Jr., this film vividly shows the nation of China under assault by the Japanese Imperial Army and documents the brutality of the invaders. The UCCR was created before U.S. involvement in WWII when the nation was technically a neutral power. Some Americans however felt it was important to speak out against Japanese aggression and the war crimes that were being committed. The film spares little grace in painting a portrait of the Japanese soldiers as monsters who repeatedly rape and torture women, bayonet young children, and have no regard whatsoever for civilian casualties.
The film was apparently shown as part of an American fundraising drive made in concert with Madame Chiang Kai-shek that included an event in New York City called "A Night in Old China" and a series of "bowl of rice" parties across the United States. Nearly $1 million was raised for relief efforts as a result of the campaign.

I write a lot about history and military history. I often get questions about Japan and the atrocities of WW. I know about this unit and what they did during WW2. But I find it hard to listen to this history. I I can listen to it but it is a very unpleasant experience. I think many people just can not believe what Japan was doing during WW2. And plenty of people say that this history is completely false. Just as modern Nazis deny the holocaust. But it is something people need to understand. This type of warfare is unacceptable. Especially the Japanese need to understand this history and why it was wrong. They should be learning about their mistakes. Japanese war crimes have been well recorded, even by the Japanese themselves. And Japanese claiming to have committed war crimes. Which many of them were justified in their minds.

Allied soldiers were also used for experimentation. One Japanese university dissected live US aircrew from a B-29. And very likely happened elsewhere.

@@astralpowerr Most of the live disections were done on Chinese civilians and prisoners who were being used to test chemical and biological weapons. They felt that live disections could give them the freshest data. This may have included some US prisoners. These activities were well recorded. The US aquired most of the data after the war. I do not think live disections were really needed. Dead disections were bad enough. It is very different to many of our views of Japanese mythology.

The film is what it is, pure propaganda. China was not a unified country at the time of Japan's advance into the continent. The First Sino-Japanese War the side opposing Japan was the private army of Northern Commissioner Li Hongzhang, in the Manchurian Incident it was the soldiers of regional warlord Zhang Xuelian, and in the Second Sino-Japanese War it was the army of Chiang Kai-shek's Nationalist Party. Japan had acquired the rights to Manchuria recognized by the international community, however was again and again trifled by different Chinese groups. Civil wars in the continent last longer and are more destructive, and atrocities and bestiality falsely blamed on Japan were usually committed by their own people. When you study their history you will find it is the repetition of the same pattern of total annihilation of the conquered by slaughter starvation, torture and execution with every change of dynasty.

Sharon Isac The Japanese war atrocities are a matter of fact, not fiction.

Fiction mixed up with facts: One small example: At dawn on July 29, 1937, three thousand (3,000) Chinese "security guards" were unleashed upon 385 Japanese residents - men, women and children - living in Tushu district. By the end of the day and before additional Japanese troupe arrived, 223 of them were brutally tortured, raped and slaughtered along with 30 of the Japanese guards stationed there to protect these residents. The photographs taken at the scene of carnage have been used as evidence for so called "Nanking Massacre." (It is believed that this incident among others like it, was the work by members of Chinese communists had infiltrated and conspired to provoke Japan and have Chinese Nationalist party under Chaing Kai Shek to engage in war in order to weaken both and eventually take over "China" which is what happened when "China" was unified in 1949 under communist rule after four bloody years of civil war.)

I would hope that you are simply ignorant, but you give the impression you have at least tried to do some fact checking. Perhaps you don't understand that irrespective of any amount of misinformation that is available, these crimes did happen. I had an uncle murdered by japanese. Nobody misunderstood the japanese intent - It was quite clear.
