The same two nations played for the Gold Medal at the Sydney Olympics in 2000...8 years previous to the game here. USA won 2-1 in eight innings after a torrid time in the round robin games where they barely made the playoffs.

Cat Osterman and Monica Abbott both pitched super well. They shouldn’t blame themselves for the loss, all the base hits and the HR were balls out of the zone. Team USA has always been super strong and had some hits, unfortunately in this game they failed to manufacture more runs.

What a treat to not have to hear the terrible announcing that usually fills these games. Love the overhead plate shots that show how big the strike zone is.

2008 was a great year. Got to visit my mom's family for the first time ever in Slovenia. Some of my cousins and my aunts and uncles didn't speak English or just enough English, but we would watch the 2008 Olympics together and it was one of the best times I had in my life

I was hoping Jennie would start pitching! She’s my absolute favorite!

I can’t speak for softball but there’s a specific technique for it to not be as hard on your skin. After doing it for so long your body just slowly changes to avoid having a raspberry. I know softball has different material on the field but that’s just my experience.

Not getting the ball hit on the ground hurt the USA's chances in the 6th inning. Good things happen in softball when you hit the ball into the ground. Instead, the USA had 2 pop-ups. Left the bases loaded. No runs came across.

Baseball-softball is the weird couple of sports. baseball almost exclusively played by men, vice versa

The Baseball was in the Olympics too. In Barcelona 1992 it was only Baseball. And in Atlanta 1996 the Softball was also inclued in the games, but Baseball was still there. In Beijing 2008 was the last Olympic that the two sports was in. And in Tokyo 2020 both will be back!

King Potato I know it’s an opinion. However I would have to disagree on it being fast paced for the sole reason that in baseball everything happens quicker due to the ball travelling at a much higher speed. You can argue that the pitch in soft ball is fast but you simply can’t generate the same spin and speed with an underarm throw

@@crystalhill4058 Why was the umpire way out from the right shoulder of the catcher when the pitch was an outside call on the batter to the left shoulder of the catcher. It's not where the ball is at the time of the call. It's where the umpire is positioned to make the correct call. And slowing the video down, the umpire made an error. The umpire was consistent throughout the whole game. Being human we make errors same as players, But HEY!!! I'm not complaining Great game for finals.

la famosa jaidennn. there’s isn’t a professional league, all there really is available are college teams (university and so forth) which is called NCAA and that’s what we see televised most of the time :) hope this helped a bit

Following on from that the following runner showed respect for the USA pitcher who was blocking home plate which the runner was entitled to slide into but opted to go round to be called OUT.
