Such as the time someone posted a picture about their amputation with the BPM hashtag and fat people went off on them for posting the hashtag when they weren’t even fat. Even Me Too movement. It's not that Japan doesn't have cancel culture (eg. the way J-Twitter treated Hana Kimura); it's really more that it's disrespectful that we push our own politics into other countries; issues happening in America is only our problem. Cancel culture in America is more based on political greed, and it doesn't often affect high-ranking authority (eg. celebrities with a strong cult, politicians, multimillionaires) that much, but it is very detrimental for small artists/commoners just trying to make a living. That said, I do respect Japan for focusing on themselves first.

People need to learn three things: Context, Intent and the actual damn content of what was being discussed.

People who are actively trying to cancel on twitter seem to lack the abillity to see things objectifly. This results in them projecting their visions on people who just can't relate in anyway because they did not grow up with the same morals and visions. It is extremly arrogant and egocentric to take your visions and morals to others in sush a forcefull and disrespectfull way. It even ends up with seeing people as lesser beings because they don't allign with their ideas. This personally saddens me that these kind of people get a podium these days on twitter and other social medias because its a verry bad influence to people and kids who are learning how to tolerate and life with people.

One reason why anime is so successful even outside Japan is the less presence of cancel culture there let's say a movie releases in India there is a good chance that that it would be cancelled heavily here especially if it draws on a sensitive issue that is also a reason why the film industry in Mumbai is declining in recent years with fewer successful movies I live in India so I can't give an example from the US the simple solution is if you don't like a movie don't watch it maybe you can recommend others the same but don't start cancelling it

the objective of cancelling was to eradicate any sort of mischief and potential danger in the internet or real world but I think these kids on twitter have been using it to raise their social status, ego, and pride which I personally think is abuse of power. Maybe it's time to stand up to false accusations and defend what you think is legally and morally right against people that clearly has anger issues. Salute to Japan for finally speaking out what's wrong with the modern internet society and hopefully they will continue to call out cancel culture whenever needed.

  • @Mimikyo_

Respect for Japan for speaking out about cancel culture! Just because you don't like something that another person likes doesn't mean you have to comment publicly about it and get something or someone involved. What happened to just staying quiet? Being quiet's better than speaking out about what you like and don't like.

Censorship is a precarious thing, it can be necessary when a subject or something could be, *keyword* _Harmful_ to view or learn of, and it can be abused to shut out freedom of _____ you name it. I wish Mr. Ogino and other council members who oppose restrictions on expression the best of luck. However, the cancellation culture has really increased in Japan. If a few people complain, companies apologize. If the media picks it up on TV, it becomes a hot topic and the company apologizes. In fact, less than 1% of the population is angry.

I think that's the difference between western politician and Japanese politician, west (for God's sake anything western then Japan) only cares to promote their idealism to public (read force their delusions) and will destroy anything that doesn't fit in their idea of norm, Japanese are on the other hand open minded people who care about their country and its citizens trying to understand and oftenly even being part of pop culture, that what makes difference between good ruler and bad ruler, good ruler exists only to make sure there's peace and prosperity in the country and that law will not become enemy of the people, bad ruler are on the other hand only cares about themselves and use laws to suppress people that is why I strongly believe Japan is the only country that can survive regardless of all their problems while all other countries will fall sooner or later choking on their own tail like a snake and will ultimately be forgotten while Japan prosper and build better future
