A cousin of mine was quite an artist. He once painted a portrait of President Kennedy and sent it off to him. In return he received a signed letter of appreciation. Some years later my cousin committed suicide - a sad situation in a time period where homosexuality was frowned upon and being in the closet was not of much help. I was a small boy and never knew these details until many years after his death. Needless to say this letter from President Kennedy was always on proud display at my aunt’s house and gave us all a sense of pride. If only he lived long enough to witness today’s acceptance…

I am taking a break from work at the moment and using the time to have a big sort out in the home we have lived in for 23 years. It is so cathartic to clean and sort, and after three boots full of items to the charity shop the house feels so much lighter. Good for you for promoting this activity!
