I got the impression that you designed interiors. Is that true or false? And if not, why not? You obviously have an eye for it, not just objects, but scale, color, where to save, where to splurge, etc. Lot's of YT offer design services and clients pay according their needs - full service or just a few tips and hacks. And in the US, no certification is required, but it probably helps when marketing.

It shows he has a lot of class and has the talent to make do in a pinch, and can probably decorate better than most people that have a lot of money. I believe you can live rich, without having a lot of money, if you know how to buy quality when they are on sale, or at collector shows, antique shops, and Craig list. Nice rugs, lamps, plants and pictures really glam up a place.

@@jimmyjoejeeter2366 DIY is also a great option, and very gratifying too. I don't watch a lot of TV but one of my favourite shows was called The High Low Project and it was all about recreating high-end interiors with similar but affordable alternatives, and the more extravagant designer-type focus pieces were recreated as DIY projects (and even customized to the client's preferences). In the end the low-end versions of the rooms looked much nicer than the high-end version which had served as the initial inspiration. I think that show is also available on KZread.

Nicolas, I am fighting the urge to say the following sentence: “His mother would be so proud of him.”. as a person pushing 70, it is a pure joy to me to encounter such an elegant, eloquent and fine young fellow as you showing us his exceptionally fine decorating skills. I would hire you in a flash, but we are Norwegians in the very northern reaches of Norway who have an entirely different esthetic, ie; not many things to choose from that would give a refined English Homes and Gardens vibe.❤️

As a twenty year interior designer, it's really interesting to see style through your eyes. The interior design industry here in the states is pretty guilty of showing only highly modern style that it imagines is most appealing to younger people, but there is a lot of comfort and pleasure to be found in traditional design elements no matter your age or generation. Your design POV sets you apart in that respect. Bravo. Keep up the beautiful work.

Mirrors you find at antique shops or flea markets can be brought back to life by returning them to their original state. I have a suggestion for your bureau; you can enhance and change the back of your shelves by painting or wallpapering thin board cut to fit each shelf or just cutting pieces of thick poster board. You are such a wonderful artist that you could paint vines or scenes of your liking for the background. Wallpaper is a beautiful and easy way to lighten and change the look. Just wrap the boards and place them in. So easy and can be beautiful. And, so easy to change even with the seasons. I love decorating too and I think your taste is excellent! As the tour continued I didn't see those 40 gorgeous framed botanicals you had framed from an old book you purchased. We're they on that blank wall at one time? They were so interesting and unusual. I so enjoy all your videos, blog and newsletter...and eagerly await my weekly portion of gracious living. Love!

I really enjoy the short stories you have about even the smallest items in your home. You shop high and low end blending the two harmoniously. Your home definitely has a warm, homey, clean feeling to it. Good job on the decor, styling, and color choices. Thank you for mentioning the color names that you painted the walls. Good job on the decor, styling, and color choices. Love the high ceilings and the layout. You're so modest and honest about daily headaches, your dreams, and appreciation of quality. You're also very brave to open your home and share your life with us!! Thank you Nicolas, I very much enjoyed the video.

I love the British classics and the French classics as well. So thank you for this. I know you love the classics too. QUESTION: Would you consider reupholstering. A club chair is about as comfortable as they come and if you like the overall profile of it, why not keep it. If the base is good, all the more reason to keep it. Quality costs.

I do the same thing with the fabric! I have a chest freezer in my dining room, it's very ugly, but just throw a piece of nice fabric over it and it doubles as a serving station. Also, A tip for budget art is to buy posters and then get them framed. A bonus of doing it this way is that it's easier to coordinate the frames to your own tastes and what you already have. Some of my most admired pieces were posters I got from a sale when I was in college!

This was a very interesting video to watch. First, I have to say, the wall in the living room, the very first thing that came to my mind was a large tapestry. I can actually see the color and style that would look so good on that wall. I'd have it at least with a medium border to balance out the cabinet across the room. Btw. whoever told you not to paint that were absolutely correct. Your kitchen looks great, and I find it functional and well done. Living in the US, people put huge sums of money into kitchens, because it's that important here, and I have to say from that perspective, your kitchen is well done, and that refrigerator is well placed and not an eye sore at all. It really looks like it belongs there. I love how you do things on a budget, but know how to make it look good, that's a great trait to have. Thanks for a fun video.

Hi Nicholas, Thank you for inviting me into your home via this video, it is just lovely (adore the high ceiling and all the trim). I very much appreciated your space saving and budget conscience DIY advise, being that I am an urban apartment dweller as well. I loved your eclectic approach to decorating. Like I do prefer to paint older pieces, but it is very important to keep some natural wood as well (so well done with the cabinet in your living area). I agree that it is important to splurge on some key pieces that you find on sale and that will travel with you as you as you age, and will no doubt last you a life time. I also agree that buying various accessories need not be from expensive stores, as half the fun is treasure hunting for what fits your personality and budget. I must say though that is finally time to stop spending money on those plants that you continually kill, as much as you love them, lol... I went thru a similar faze when I was your age....it's time to move on to something different now. Best regards and good luck, Sherry, Toronto, Canada

Hi Nicholas. Really enjoyed this video. Some suggestions for your to ponder on: How about putting the Buro between the two windows facing the street. You will still be able to see whats going on outside, but you will still have some privacy when working. Although it will cover the paneling, its not permanent. The Buro is a fabulous piece and the brown will also balance out the room. Another possibility will be to put the Buro against the blank wall in the middle with the two half white tables to balance the wall. The Buro is really beautiful. I have a very old Napoleon style study table with the small apartments and drawers to put in stationary. Open your desk up and put it in the place where the Buro is now. Again it will balance out the brown in the room. Some big bright flowerily pattern material for the sofas will brighten up the room. Love the console table in your lobby. Beautiful. A real old French mirror will round it off in your Foyer. Enjoy making your home beautiful for yourself!
