I accidentally ran across your You Tube channel while looking for commentaries about Art & Fable puzzles. I have only viewed a few puzzle reviewers, but I am thankful I encountered yours. I have only recently started puzzling (about a year and a half). I bought my first puzzle (Heye Triangular Box) in Santa Barbara in the 1980's and did not build it until 20 years later. I acquired a few more Heye puzzles since then and then tried Ravensburger. So, I was spoiled right out of the gate. Like you, I enjoy Dean MacAdam and Demelsa Haughton's artwork, as well as some others. I am only an "occasional" puzzler. Have other interests, but puzzling is more constructive than streaming movies and being a total couch potato. My family does some puzzling, but most of their puzzles are acquired from libraries / senior centers, etc. They also seem to put "cost" high on their list of acquisition properties. I only have a few lower cost puzzles. One was gifted to me by a relative. It was my first "random cut" puzzles, and I almost gave up on building it. You had some comments about one Buffalo Games puzzle, a Charles Wysocki image. I was gifted a couple of Buffalo cat puzzles while they were still made in America and had to be exceedingly careful about opening the boxes. I just bought a Charles Wysocki image "Labor Day in Bungalowville". Buffalo puzzles are now made in China, and there have been a few improvements. This particular puzzle is from their Silver Select Edition. Nice box, resealable piece bag, poster. I do not like gloss finishes, and one person commented that the piece knobs are more "nubs" than knobs. I just ordered my first Art & Fable puzzle direct from Art & Fable. Had I known that creating an account first would have given me a discount on the puzzle, I could have saved some money. I might acquire a few more of their puzzles, but I am not in a position to spend a whole lot of money on puzzles. I am selective in my puzzle images / artwork. I will not build a puzzle for the sake of building a puzzle. I will probably place a lid on my puzzle acquisitions - soon. Then I will simply rebuild what I have. I only a build a puzzle once every month or two. I have a couple of cats, and I have a set of 8-inch and 10-inch Tidyboss trays. I sort my pieces into the trays, stack them up when I stop building for the day and cover the puzzle with a piece of foam board to keep the cats away. I have yet to lose a puzzle piece. That being said, I think your puzzle channel is the best, and you are honest in your critiques of puzzle quality. Thanks for establishing this puzzle resource.

Hi Sharon! Wow! Thank you so much for your comments!! Your puzzling journey started off with a bang with both Heye and Ravensburger puzzles. Both are high quality brands. Art & Fable puzzles are also high quality, and the artwork is fabulous. The only thing I had to adjust to with Art & Fable puzzles is the "velvet touch" finish. That took a little getting used to because the puzzle pieces don't slide over each other very easily. Their puzzles are on the more expensive side, but they do occasionally have sales, and that is when I purchase. I am super-picky about my puzzles, and the more brands I try, the pickier I get! I love the Tidyboss trays as well, they are a lifesaver! Thankfully, my cats are not interested in my puzzles, so I don't have to worry about pieces "disappearing". I hope you continue watching and commenting in the future. :0)

If a puzzle is identified as "small batch", does that mean that fewer copies of the puzzle are manufactured? Second question, what are your "build times" for grid cut versus random cut puzzles? I am averaging (for 1,000 piece puzzles) about 22 - 26 hours for a grid cut puzzle, and the only random cut puzzle I made took 36 hours. I only spend maybe a couple of hours at a time working on puzzles, so my enjoyment is spread out over a number of days / weeks. Are there some random cut puzzles that have interlocking border pieces? Instead of a puzzle scoop, I simply slide a piece of paper under my puzzle piece sections that I build in my Tidyboss trays to move them to the drawing board surface where I build my puzzles. Have to protect the puzzles from the cats. You have no idea what it is like to build a puzzle when they decide they are going to jump on the drawing board and try to take a nap in the middle of the puzzle. I am going to search for a smooth covered box that I can dump the puzzle pieces into from the smaller boxes that some puzzles come in to sift out any puzzle dust (i.e. Buffalo Games and probably Art & Fable, Cloudberries, etc.). One nice characteristic of Ravensburger is their nice big boxes. I empty the pieces from the plastic bag into the box bottom, pick up the pieces in small hand fulls and let the dust fall through my fingers and let the pieces fall into the box top. I then empty the box bottom of any dust and pick up the pieces from the box top and let them fall into the now clean box bottom and repeat the process. I think colanders are too hard on the puzzle pieces. I do this about four times before finally sorting the pieces into the puzzle trays. A video on puzzle terminology, cut varieties and build hints would be appreciated. Like you, when I finish a puzzle and take it apart, I place the main puzzle pieces in a slider zip lock bag, but I put the border pieces into a sandwich bag, so I do not have to sort it out when I rebuild the puzzle. Okay, time to get on with life. Too many other things to do, baking, hiking, house cleaning, yard work, etc. Thanks again.

Hi Sharon! Small batch puzzles are produced in smaller quantities than regular puzzles, and because of your question, I have written to Cloudberries to find out exactly how many puzzles are produced for their small batch puzzles, and I will let you know their answer when they get back to me. As far as my puzzle assembly times go, my times are pretty much the same whether the puzzle is grid or random cut. I generally put a 1000-piece puzzle together in anywhere from 3 hours to 10 hours, depending on the image. I typically dump out all my puzzle pieces onto my table, puzzle dust and all. Puzzle dust is probably the one puzzling thing that bothers me the least. Your idea about doing a video on puzzle terminology, cuts, and build hints is a good one and I will file it away for a later date. In addition to my puzzle scoop, I also use a pancake spatula to move a large section of puzzle pieces around, but paper works just as well. Thanks for all your comments and suggestions and keep watching! More videos to come! :0)
