Dr. Jane Goodall, DBE, joined students, faculty and friends in Graham Chapel at Washington University on Oct. 9, 2022. She shared inspiring details about her lifetime of advocating for the natural world and how each of us can use her reasons for hope to create a better future for people, animals and the planet we share. This video presents excerpts from a longer talk and a question-and-answer session moderated by Crickette Sanz, professor of biological anthropology in Arts & Sciences.
Goodall, founder of the Jane Goodall Institute (JGI) and UN Messenger of Peace, is a world-renowned ethologist and activist inspiring greater understanding and action on behalf of the natural world. She is known for groundbreaking studies of wild chimpanzees in Gombe Stream National Park, Tanzania, which forever changed our understanding of our relationship to the rest of the animal kingdom. This transformative research continues today as the longest running wild chimpanzee study in the world.
This event was presented by the Assembly Series, Washington University's signature lecture series, which has been bringing thought leaders to campus since 1953.
