Watched this as a 5 year old in 1974. I've never forgotten it.

One of my most favorite doc! Can’t count how many times I viewed this awesome video. I longed to find out what happened to Solo. She is definitely a savior.

Thank you so much for posting this. It was one of my favorites as a child. I have mentioned this little known episode to others and I am so glad it’s available. I met Jane Goodall which was a dream of mine. This story of Solo always inspired me. Thank you again!

Wild dogs make the cutest sounds

I first saw this incredible film when it was originally released, and completely fell in love with that plucky scrap of a puppy, Solo. Her story made such an impression on me that I bought the book about her early life, and her stubborn struggle to survive, also. I longed to be able to rewatch the documentary, and searched for it - in vain - over the years. To be able to see it again, and share Solo's moving story once more, is just wonderful. Thank you so, so much for posting this.

The painted wolf (also called the African wild dog) is my second favorite animal of all. It’s so amazing how an animal can be both a highly efficient pack hunter yet a caring and nurturing caretaker of the rest of the pack. It’s really sad that they’re highly endangered, rarer than lions, elephants, and even both species of African rhinoceros. Only 6,600 painted wolves are left in the wild. 300 of them are left in Serengeti National Park in Tanzania.

I remember this from almost 50 years ago, and still remember how I felt bad about how Angel and her pups were treated.

OMG I was so fucking happy that they rescued Solo from certain death😭 I'm bawling my eyes out seeing her being accepted into a new family.

@@imacjason awesome...thank you! No believes me that Jane Goodell did anything other than chimps....which I knew she had because I wanted to be just like her when I was grew up so was aware of everything(or mostly everything) she was doing... Thanks again!

Wow, havoc is a bully. I thought keeping the pack numbers up and strong was most important with these guys but apparently she never got that memo.

8:18 people watch this and observe nature, but they're really not seeing the actual depth of the matter and extreme fear within angel of havoc and the torment she endures, for simply doing what nature wanted, her to give offspring and procreate. an innocent victim of circumstances. poor thing

Angel was run off because she was pregnant and normally only the alpha female has pups. And they will kill the other's pups.

How difficult to watch (had to skip around), but bless these people for doing what they could... though I understand that nature is cruel in matters of survival. Still... what a hopeful ending. I cried tears of relief, as I'm severely over-empathetic, it seems :')

8:05 this is so frustrating. ok sure I get it, they're telling a story. but the scenes are not even in chronological order. the whole video is totally mismatched. just like at this point, she wasnt pregnant bc she had already given birth. her milk sacks, teets, breasts, whatever are filled and dangling with milk. that isnt like that while still pregnant or before birth. personally I'd rather watch the video as it is there, not in an edited story.
