Another heartwarming (and eye-opening) film by Hugo and Jane... what a brilliant contribution they've made, both together and separately, to our understanding of animal society and personality. Thank you so much for sharing xxx

So in the 60’s and 70’s scientists destroyed all the myths about Hyenas but to this day in 2022, people still think they’re just scavengers, people 😂🤦🏻♂️

The myth might stem from another hyena species. Compared to the active spotted hyena, striped hyenas scavenge more often. Because striped hyenas were the first to be seen by people outside of Africa, the general public's ideas about hyena behavior is based off that species specifically.

@@johnh.mcsaxx3637 I mean yeah but even striped hyenas hunt about half their diet in areas that aren't just barren desert where you're not gonna find anything alive.

Super! I read her book "Innocent Killers" as a child and am very happy to see some of the characters in her book on video.

So funny how the cubs stay and simply watch for weeks in the den until they're summoned out or build up the courage and confidence to get out.

I noticed her husband at that time was a Baron, I guess Jane was a Baroness.

Spotted hyenas are fascinating animals. And in a lot of ways they’re as or more intelligent than the chimpanzees that Goodall studied

The Hyenas are social animals who live in clans. The Hierarchy is very rigid where the queen is like a monarch as well as a dictator.

Jane & Hugo set the high standard hat most later camera crews disregard- no sedation, no collaring, just seek the species & observe with respect. Most importantly, undo the stereotype “ villainous ” hyenas, give them real value in this ecosystem . Hyenas remain misunderstood generations later despite science, mainly due to ppl killing other predators (esp cheetahs, leopards). Good to see Africa as it should be- no ppl or farm in the vast background.

24:32 I noticed they didn't use pronouns when referring to the twin cubs, and that;s because they weren't sure of their genders, since female hyenas are no different from males, externally!

Can someone please tell me what the intended goal was for shadow the stalker as he creepily attempted to sneak up on miss? Was he trying to mate with her against her will??

I think he was getting angry that she wasn’t interested as she had cubs, he wanted to attack her out of frustration but that’s a fight he would loose very quickly.

@@ashdog236 yes and it seemed clear that he knew that and was scared of her which leads me to believe it was something else since attacking her wouldn’t be a good idea. His repeated attempts to sneak up on her appeared quite purposeful. It’s what that purpose was that I’m wondering about....
