@@hammerclubceo7075 Plot was average, but the acting was brilliant. The characters are what pulled me into this show, especially Jane. Also, I doubt you’ve seen much TV if you think the main character always gets his revenge the way it’s shown in Mentalist. Usually the main character gives up and decides revenge isn’t worth it, or gets his enemy put in jail. Jane killed him cold blood.

0:42 the moment Jane pulls out that shotgun I got chills. Never have I ever been so shocked watching an episode like this since maybe Breaking Bad. I think this is one of the greatest episodes of The Mentalist because this is the closest Jane has ever been to finding Red John and he’s literally sitting mere feet away from him. What makes this scene so good is that the amount of detail the show runners put into hiding Red John. You can notice and I think that someone else in the comments said this, and it’s that when Jane says “One of you here, is Red John” McAllister is the only one not to overreact and stay completely calm and is the first suspect to try and reason with him.

There’s this set of circumstances you’re tied to. It’s in the foundation of this universe. Pay attention, there is no coincidence. God exists. The Bible is truth. We all see these clips in reality. Where we know we’re being talked to. By the universe. We explain it away for our own sanity. What we want, and the things we must do to obtain them, verses what we learn God wants. It’s hard to get those two on the same level. But the shock of knowing what we must give up causes so many to avoid digging deeper. There are reasons why. Poison exists on a spiritual level, sin taints our immortal souls. It isn’t that we’re bad. It’s that Satan attached a curse to actions we take, claiming us as him. Like a drowning man tying himself to your ankles. God offers the knife to free yourself. Grace is a free gift God wants to give us all. It removes that stain of sin on our souls by forgiving the mistakes we made in ignorance. It’s just that God has a nature he cannot control. As our loving father he cannot give to one without another. He has to give us our own free will, one and all if anyone. Sin is something that takes many forms, and we all fall short of the glory of God. Being perfect isn’t the point. It’s about forgiveness. God can’t blanket forgive sins just because he knows our life’s circumstances. That’s forgive the devil too, considering he was an angel and only sinned one. Again, God can’t do for one child without the other. We have far more sins by count. He’s responsible for all the evil on earth, but it is the humanity that carried out his will. God has made standers we all must reach spiritually in life. Soul growth and development that shows faith. Shows that we’ve taken the teachings of Jesus Christ to heart. It’s all about forgiveness. To be forgiven we must forgive. It all starts at the heart, at home, with our family. Those people that have loved us, sheltered, fed, etc. working though the grievances we all build up with our parents is a huge spiritual milestone. That’s really what sets everything into motion as an adult. Once that gear grins freely the next fall into place so smoothly. Jesus Christ is lord. It’s something you learn inside once you clear out that inner baggage. You bleed your heart clean though your eyes. You understand why you need to submit to Jesus Christ and ask for forgiveness. Everything you ever need is in three books of the Bible. Genesis explains the problem, why these circumstances are so important. Mathew explains what’s been done to fix the system. And just one more, one book of the Bible you chose yourself. I Suggest James. It has many interesting lessons condensed and straightforward. Please trust me. I know how it sounds. It really does all begin with the inner work of forgiveness. It teaches your soul so many important lessons. Jesus Christ is the way truth and life. 😊 😊

Much as I loved the later reveal and comeuppance, I honestly thought the revelation would be that ALL of them were Red John because Red John never existed: He was a mythical boogeyman created by Stiles to stir up the public and sift out a worthy successor for both his church and the secret organization he’d built. Many people working together committed the murders, and once the successor, Jane, was found, all the trials they put him through were to test and increase his astounding intellect; kill off, both literally and figuratively, any connections he had to the “real world”; and open his already cynical, pragmatic, exploitive mind to the “nothing matters” worldview of Visualize. The knowledge that there was no one person whose death would bring him peace, that he couldn’t have a clean, pure revenge, would’ve been devastating.

Yeah that bugged me as well. Also, it's really stupid to give literally everyone in the room a chance to simultaneously all pull out their guns. Like you've got one, they've got 5. Odds are HEAVILY in favor of Red John in that particular instance, and while Jane might kill one person in the process, RJ could easily have killed Jane and kept on going. Had he told them all to keep their hands up, and tell them to disarm 1 at a time, that would've been more sensible and far less risky.

@@201hastings Correct, the only thing that matters in this hypothetical context would be whether or not he shot Red John before getting himself killed. But my original point still stands; when you are outnumbered, the last thing you want to do is give everyone in the room a chance to simultaneously turn on you. Asking 4 potential hostiles who all might be working together to all draw their guns at the same time in front of you just feels plain stupid imo. Hell, it might've even been more easy to ignore if Jane positioned himself off to the side of the group, at least that way when his shotgun goes off the spray would potentially get them all in one go. From where he was standing, he might've gotten 2 at best.

That's basic storytelling clear back beyond Murder on the Orient Express, which made its mark with the twist that you can look up (or, hopefully, already knew, because the book and most adaptations are a great ride). A swerve with the perpetrator being a previously unknown person is also a story option, but is much less common and harder to set up to satisfaction.

That's because he killed Red John at the end of Season 3. Jane's court case was supposed to stretch out over the fourth season and freshen-up the format. The network said no. Bring back Red John and keep recycling the same formula over and over. That's why we got the fake-out and the one episode hand wave of the murder trial in season 4. Had it stuck to plan, the team would have been digging into the seemingly innocent nobody that Jane inexplicably murdered. We would have a mystery unfold over time with Jane's neck on the line. Discovering what, how and who Red John was. Keeping it going another four years was just stretching things too far.

Buzzkill for a moment and just say every time a show does the "guy with gun disarms other guys with guns by pointing his at them first." I'm always like "that's probably not how that would go IRL." like anyone of the bad guys could just use their gun the moment they get their hands on it to "disarm themselves" instead of dropping it, and if they're fast enough, they could easily win since he can't point his 1 gun at everyone all at once. It's like you gotta think from the bad guy's perspective, like MC with shotgun KNOWS the truth and is about to disarm you, you really going to let that happen? No, probably not, so it stand to reason one or all of them would just use their gun instead of dropping it and the MC will probably lose because they're all facing him lol. i never got why an intelligent character, once they have the upper hand, would be written to immediately give up all their advantages by allowing the bad guys to touch their guns or whatever, without a way to mitigate the risk. Maybe i'm thinking too deep into it lol.

I disagree. Season 6 was good actually and the final episode of this season made sense. The only bad thing about the series is probably season 7. It was pointless. For me, there are actually six seasons of the show.

It is risky but even if they all go for their guns at the same time he’ll still kill at least one of them and none of them want to be that person. So yeah they could’ve killed him but it was a cost no one wanted to risk paying

I'll forgive it because it would have totally fucked up the pacing to have them go around one by one removing their guns. Also, in-world, I figure Jane's smart enough to understand that nobody in their right mind is going to try to draw on a man who's got the drop on them with the shotgun. Yeah, they'd get Jane, but Jane would absolutely obliterate that first guy. He's a mentalist. He understands the psychology of that.
