Janakpur Nepal Street Food Hunt 🇳🇵 (WHAT IT’S REALLY LIKE) | Janakpurdham
Ойын-сауық
What’s fun about Nepal is the amazing food diversity the country has to offer. Nepal is an incredible foodie destination.
We spent two full days hunting for the best street food in Janakpur, NEPAL, located near the Indian border.
We arrive in Janakpur in the evening and check in at (probably) the best hotel in the city, Mithila Yatri Niwas @MithilaYatriNiwas So immaculate.
We head right after to a Dhaba for dinner (Dhaba is a roadside restaurant famous in Terai, Pakistan and India). The mutton taas is a fail but the paneer butter masala and chicken tandoori are a delight!
In the morning, for breakfast, we are lucky as we stubble into a shop selling litti; we end up eating litti (a dough ball stuffed with sattu - chickpeas, pulses and cereals powder), muri ghugni (traditional breakfast), kachri, and Nepali tea.
Then we visit the Sita Ram temple, where Sita (incarnation of Goddess Laxmi) married God Ram (incarnation of Lord Vishnu).
We finally make it to the most beautiful temple Janaki Mandir. I am really impressed by the beauty of this temple.
We then go to Ram Temple, where I (again) get feed.
For lunch, we eat at Navarang. The Mutton Chusta is not to our taste but the Katiya and small shrimps are very good.
Then comes the unexpected & unplanned street food tasting. We are trying:
- Sugarcane Juice
- Bhel Puri, a very special savory kind of chaat,
- Manchurian, balls made of shredded vegetables, fried and coated with a spicy gravy curry,
- Bhaja, a popular street food snack similar to chatpate but with a different taste and served with kachri and taruwa.
After this street food feast, we decide to head to the train station. It is an epic experience to just see this chaos. This is the only railway station of Nepal. And somehow, it feels like being in Bihar, India.
In the evening, we finish our tour at the Ganga Sansa where I witness my first Aarti.

Janakpur station is not the only station in Nepal, there are serveral others. But the railway line is the only line.

That was such a nice video! Was it your first visit to Janakpur? I have to check it out at some point, I just have to do it in the coolest month because otherwise I would surely melt in the heat of the south haha. The people seem really friendly as well. It's also crazy to think there are no railways inside of Nepal. It would be so nice for transport but I guess it's the terrain and the lack of money that keeps them from building. Nepal seems to offer a truly endless variety of food specialties and following along your journey of exploring and tasting all these delicious dishes since the beginning makes me sooo happy! Thanks Maya & Krishna & Erik 🥰

Thank you Karl!! ☺ It was a very fun video to make! It was indeed our first time in Janakpur. But we got a lot of recommendations about where to go and what to eat (although we ended up trying other things as well that we had no clue about 😅). It was very hot indeed but not as bad as right now. Better to go in winter. It's never cold there. And yes, people are super friendly. We really loved Janakpur! It was a wonderful surprise. 🤗
I just love your videos

I'm watching them serve with their hands. My system couldn't tolerate it. I found out the hard way in Europe. really spoils my fun.

Tapaiiko video dammi cha! Khana Janakpur ma ramro lagyo 😋 You just make me want to see even more of Nepal and hungry here sitting watching this England ma 😉 So after all these years, my favourite band Rush from Canada has a song called 'Passage to Bangkok'. The lyrics mention the train pulling into Kathmandu, so after watching one of Tanguy Dai's videos it all comes crashing down because of course there is only one station in Nepal, this one 😆👍

Food was so good! Chef Santosh Shah is from there. He has some restaurants in UK where you can find some of those dishes I think. 😊
