MORE ABOUT JAN.......
Jan Cyrka is probably best known for three solo albums full of meaty guitar playing: "Beyond the Common Ground", "Spirit" and "Prickly Pear". However, Jan's career began in the 1980s when he was guitarist-in-chief with cartoon biker band Zodiac Mindwarp and the Love Reaction, supporting Guns 'n' Roses on extensive tours of the US and Canada. He now composes and records music for a variety of clients and his music has appeared on TV shows and movies such as Friends, Hi-Fidelity (John Cusack), The Fast and the Furious, Saturday Night Live, America's Most Wanted, Wife Swap, The Jeremy Kyle Show, Absolutely Fabulous and many others.
Jan produced the monthly instructional CD accompanying Guitarist magazine for over ten years, and has worked with many of the world's finest players in his studio, including Steve Vai, Joe Satriani, Paul Gilbert, Mick Taylor, Pat Travers, Yngwie Malmsteen, Jerry Donohue, Billy Sheehan and Zakk Wylde. Jan also produced and mixed Guthrie Govan incredible first album 'Erotic Cakes'.

It's funny to think that some years ago I watched this video and I thought "Wow! This guy is amazing! I don't know why I haven't heard of him before. JTC should pay more attention to him" without even realizing that he is THE FOUNDER of JTC! It's great to know that the boss is a hell of a player too!
Beautifully melodic and played with great feel. Very nice!

Shredders take note: - blasting away at a million miles an hour is entertaining for about 5 minutes, this kind of playing is far more memorable. If most of us could play half as well as this guy we would be happy, texture, phrasing, melody, tone - its all here and it's fantastic - Thanks Jan

It's about putting it all together. If you listen to somebody give a speech you don't want Is monotone speaking, You want inflection. Say it loud say it soft, Speed up slow down, Et cetera

I’m not a guitarist but I would sell my soul to play like this. I have Jan’s album “Guitar Heroes” Guthrie Govan guests on a few tracks as well James Graydon, Alex Hutchings, Clive Caroll and couple more guitarists love the album for all the different styles approached. I’m just the bloke who hangs around musicians, a Drummer I take this approach to playing and listening to music Close my eyes Listen with my ears Feel it with my heart. Jan Cyrka’s playing is perfect for my very simplistic approach, it has feeling to it.

It’s crazy, but this just got recommended to me, and I am at a point in my playing, where I want to slow down and start falling back on really intricate phrasing rather than just shred solos like I used to do. This piece would be tough for me personally just because I know I’d unintentionally rush a lot of the notes.
He's one of the living proofs that is not necessary to shred for being EPIC!!!
Master of his trade ...the man is a legend.Well for me anyway. He is a legend.
I cannot believe that I discovered him just now !!!!!!!!!!!!! I love his music I am a guitar lover, not a player , but love guitar for the last 50 years . From Jeff Beck, Al di Meola, Pat Metheny, Larry Carlton, Frank Gambale, Allan Hodsworth, Shaw Lane , Neal Schon etc... And my all time favourite Andrew Latimer. I am looking forward to listening to more of his
He has a preamp built into the guitar which boosts the output signal by around four times. This has a low pass filter on it to get rid of the fizzy highs. Combined with the Boss OD-1 and the Laney, and the way he strikes the strings of course, is how he gets that tone. Hope that helps.

Super, I was wondering if he had put a sustainer in the middle pick up... thanks for clearing that up. 😎🤘
I can't help myself, I come back here every once in a while to enjoy this wonderful piece of music, well done Jan !
That fucking guitar is freaking crying!!! i can get enough of this music....best vibrato EVER!

I Freaking LOVE His Kramer guitar.
This music is like a warm blanket.
Absolutely one of this country's finest musicians. I had the pleasure of meeting him once back in 1999. His music is so inspiring and as a listener it takes you somewhere else.

This guy has a very beautiful, ballad-y style of playing. Very impressive.
I always come back to Jan Cyrka guitar instrumentals for great tone and playing ability. What a fantastic player.
Jan Cyrka the best guitar solo I've ever heard in my life
Amazing tone and control of that nice guitar!!!!! He can shred, yes my friend he can - but in this piece: the heart played! Big like!
Jan, your album Beyond the common ground was with me in greatest time in my life, I love it. But this song... its amazing, soulful and... I dont have words to tell this. I cant even imagine how hard to play this song is. You are great. Greetings from Poland!

O jesteś z Polski.Odkryłem tego Pana w UK...Niesamowity jest
Brilliant ! and living proof that pulling strange faces and looking as though you are in pain are not essential prerequisites to making the guitar sing.
True perfection....One of the most perfect and well written composition on guitar....Simply amazing...timeless masterpiece...The technique and sensitive playing...plus tthe fabulous guitar tone....everything is touching perfectionJust perfect...perfect....perfect.
I love this jam. This shows that playing fast isn't the only route to beautiful, emotive music from the guitar.
less is much more, simple and beautifull, a really melody from heart...
@3.32 -3.49 is just tonal ear wonder. so perfectly elicit and amazin'.
most melodic and soulful guitar player.. hands down.
I remember playing along to this song endlessly a while back. One of my fave guitar power ballads ever. Good stuff.
Obviously before Guthrie Govan came on the scene but ye! I too love this and think Jan is the man. I like the fact that he is just playing in the mood and not trying to impress as well we know he can play anything. This just has it all for me, I just love it. Peace!
This reminds me of 80's Gary Moore or Michael Schenker ballads, great!

best player of our era...
Jan: absolutely brilliant. Please keep on sharing your playing with us.
Still the same Kramer! Jan, you'r the shredder that got the best bends, smart phrasings I ve heard. So glad to hear you. I feel like a kid.
Have visited this piece so many times but still love it. Truly a real musician and best thing, so humble but recognised by the lack of self indulgence. A true star in my eyes.
Kocham ten utwór niezmiennie od 15 lat ! Dear Jan. I love this song since I was starting to play the guitar. It was 15 years ago. You have done a lot of beautiful and fantastic music! Thank you a lot!
You write such beautiful melodies, Jan. Thanks for many years of inspiration.
this is called pure sustaining awesomeness... what a liquid rock tone love it!!
Same here. This piece just tickles all the right memories. It makes me both smile and cry depending on my mood .
So incredible! one of the most beautiful music that I have ever heard. Mr Cyrka, thank you so much!
That song is so beautiful. I've cried when i heard that for the very first time. Completely beautiful.
F-A-N-T-A-S-T-I-C
Lovely Jan. All the best.
I agree with your oppinions: this was and is (even more now that I've seen it "live") one of my favourite ballad for guitar. The strong feeling and musicality of this short masterpiece is really hard to reach... ...Many thanks Jan!!!
Never heard of Jan Cyrka and came across this video by accident looking at Kramer stuff. 13 years later but hey, that's some fantastic playing. I really enjoyed that.
i listen to this in the 90s and since then ive never stopped playing guitar.thanks jan
There's a million shredders but only one Jan Cyrka. I know who I'd like to play like.
A perfect soul !!
Lovely Jan.
Wow, what a find. Had this album back in the day - lost the cd, I'm afraid. Used to play along to this song, as it was my fave. Played along to it right now and most of it was still in my fingers. So cool. :)
un touché exemplaire !!! une vrai lecon de maitise !!!! j'ai rencontré yan en 1993 a montpellier en france et depuis j'adore !!!!! a touchdown copy magnificent player guitar ! a true lesson of maitise! I met Yan in 1993 at montpellier in france and since I love!
Lovely track Jan, and lovely to see a Night Swan. Rare sight these days.
this masterpiece makes me wanna cry everytime i hear it.....and i only know this guys since yesterday.....it's just great...
Perfect use of the whammy bar......speechless!!
I loved this whole album when it first came out, I still have it on cassette somewhere - I must get a digital copy! Great to see it played like this.
Wow, this is fantastic stuff. Never heard of him before and this video has been here for almost eight years!
this guy should be extremely famous. why isn't he?
I've never seen so much emotion in a song before!! Masterpiece!!
since i can't shred, I feel really comfortable playing Jan Cyrka songs by ear, yet, the hardest part in the process is to play his songs with the same amount of feelings he has, really amazing player, RESPECT!
pentatonic - only theory, but his espression is excellence !!
Insane. I remember listening to this masterpiece for the first time 15 years ago and it really blew my mind. The tone, phrasing, pinch harmonics, etc. perfect! I come back to this song al least once a week to get inspired and remind myself you don't have to play 300 notes a second but you need to make sure every note is a hit. Im pretty sure I will come back every week for the next 15 years too. Thanks Jan!
this guitar solo bring back memories, i was so young when listening to this solo for the first time.
great work, love all of jan's music!
In was on a page about Rob Zombie... then I thought of Zodiac Midwarp... and "hey it's been years sonce I've checked anything about Jan Cyrka"... checked this... and wow, he's better than ever.
Happy birthday !! Jan
One camera angle, no fire works, just pure emotions... If there is a definition of "the flow" in the music, this one is the one to describe it to me...
I'm in love with this man's playing
Jan Cyrka is awesome...top player...Great control over all the notes he plays.
So Subtle. So Sublime. Everything about this piece is just perfect. I keep coming back and never tire of it's relaxing therapy on my soul. Pure manna from heaven and music for the soul. SPIRITED!
from `Cyrka` to `Zodiac Mindwarp`,to this-bedroom symphony..love it....
Now that is tone. Phenomenal playing and melody.
I keep coming back to this - I just love it.
pięknie nam tutaj pogrywasz Janku :)
Never heard of this guy, but I like his sound. Nice tone. He plays with style rather than flash.
A really awesome piece of good guitar performance, amazing impressions. Congratulations! Respect!
Wow Jan.. Amazing.. So beautiful.. Thanks
I LOVE MELODIC GUITAR PLAYING LIKE THIS. WOW
Billy Barton , Just love this, ever need a vocal Jan you got me, Brilliant
Simplemente hermozo... Jan demuestra que no solo se trata de vertiginosidad y velocidad, sino tambien de fraseo, pasion y exactitud. Gracias Jan!!! :)
Love Love Love. What more can one say. Jan's THEE man.
Really enjoyable. Fantastic tasteful playing. Thanks for sharing your rig & axe too . . .
What an awesome guitarist, will have this track played at my funeral!! I received the cd " Beyond The Common Ground" as a birthday pressie, made turning 50 acceptable!! An absolutely awesome cd for any fan of rock guitar music and by far Jan's best work. Joe Satriani rates him very highly, (his own words). If you ever decide to tour the UK, please come to Cardiff !!!!!
This definitely brings me back... He is one of those rare breed that choses sweeping melody over shredding. My favorite track on his Spirit album is Breaking Point... this is close second. Jan really knows how to make the guitar sing....
If perfection was a music it would be this one
Love the old Selmer on the shelf there. Ain't seen one of those in decades. Playing is awesome as usual :)
Beautiful beautiful music played by a true pro..
Jan's the man. I just love this piece.
Such a fine player & sad he's been around so long & doesn't really get the credit he deserves . Such a unique & awesome feeling way to approach to using the Whammy Bar to work those notes to their fullest . Took some hard looking years ago to find a few of his 90s recordings but well worth it . A real legend more need to hear.
Excellent sustain, especially for a Floyd-Rose!
Jan had that special feeling in his fingers. Wow.
This guy feels every note! Awesome stuff
beautiful, clean, subtle, emotional, controlled and super melodic...excellent sir! thank you
Wow, a Kramer Nightswan. Was going to say I haven't seen on in years, but noticed the age of the video, so technically I still haven't seen one in years. HA
PURE FEELING!!! GREATH GUITAR PLAYER. THANKS A LOT FOR YOUR LESSON ON GUITARRIST MAGAZINE.
Fantastic playing and sound. Beautiful and emotional.
Your obviously not a guitar man then. Same thing??? Ye, Quality, class, superiority, talent, understated, truly pleasing and uplifting. Phew!! Sometimes the spaces and gaps in life are more productive than the garbled hyper speedy moments. Chill oot an relax my friend. X
And it makes us FEEL, FEEL, FEEL.
loved those large and sweet notes!
Dear Jan. That is some sick sustain and tone.
Beautiful way to make the guitar breathe! Super lyrical playing!
