Jamming with Steve Jordan at Fork's Drum Closet
Музыка
This happened at the Steve Jordan clinic at Fork's Drum Closet in Nashville, TN on October 18th. He had two vintage kits setup to allow people who had questions about how to improve their pocket. I was the last one up and rather than asking about my feel, I just told him I just wanted to get the chance to jam with him. Steve Jordan is my musical hero and the single greatest drumming influence. Theres not a drummer alive who I've studied more. That was the bucket list moment for me. Id been waiting my whole life to play with him. I was doing my best to remain respectful of what he was doing and wasn't trying to outshine or show off chops in any way. He's a legend with a list of credits a mile long and deserves nothing but respect. Hope you dig. :)

That’s pretty sweet. Very few drummers would have the balls to get in there. Well done.

Stephen Mahlstedt thanks brother. I had to try
Man, as a musician there’s nothing I admire more than humbleness. Your willingness to allow him his signature snare sound, your willingness to withhold to allow him to show off and your hesitation to drop your own solo was inspiring enough as it was. And then you dropped that awesome solo section. Top it all off with your ability to adapt to changes, and to truly watch and follow what he was doing. Dude, mad props. I admire you.

Too kind brother. He’s a hero of mine and the entire moment was just me getting to jam with a mentor of sorts. :)
Listening to Steve Jordan is like a breath of fresh air. The guy can flat out burn on drums. Yet he's not about fast licks, and out playing other cats. He's become one of my heroes in the past 5 years. Keep on groovin bruh!!!
What a cool guy! Steve Jordan continues to impress with his humility and genuine spirit. Nice experience, Brother.
Those other drummer got tips, you, my friend, got a lesson.

heroellis amen to that
He's my new hero, he swings hard like Elvin, has perfect and clean timing of Buddy and the groovalistasity and the low rollin" HUGE hip flava swag of Mr Purdie. Why never have I heard of this drum player
Nice job man! Steve has always been a favorite of mine from back in the Letterman band days. But I remember my friend's older brother playing me Steve Kahn's Modern Times record back in the 80's and Steve's drumming blew me away. His drumming has been blowing my mind ever since. So happy to see you jamming with Steve and happy to hear that he's such a down to earth dude. \m/
Man, what a beautiful moment ! Steve Jordan is one of my favorite drummer and maybe the number one in my heart. Since i discovered him with Steve Khan's Eyewitness band (man the track "Guy Lafleur"...). You sound awesome and to see you next to him, looking at him with your eyes full of respect, emotion and joy is really inspiring. I thank you both of you. The end of the video is very emotional for me ! Steve seems to be a really nice person. God bless you both. Amicizia, Christian
The respect in your eyes
Thanks a million for posting! I'm grateful for any clips of Steve Jordan, they are a valuable educational resource for drummers.
Just discovered Steve Jordan and I'm not just impressed by his style and technique but his soul for the groove. AMAZING

That’s brilliant & Heartwarming thing.
Pure joy! Thank you.
Very cool Ben. I've met Steve a few times and he's been nothing but a gentleman and one genuinely cool dude. I've dug his playing since the late 70's when he was playing with Mike Mainieri and John Scofield in the early 80's.....and Letterman of course. I'm happy for you to have had this moment with a great player like Steve. Great groovin' too man!

Yeah man. 👍🏻. I'm happy that you got to jam with only of your hero's. You guys sound good together. I would've been intimidated too, but, you done real good. Keep Rockin', bud
Great post & Great drumming , thanks for sharing ! !
Really enjoyed this jam. You kept a nice pocket around Steve’s grooves, and totally get if you were scared to solo :-) , but you definitely held your own. Steve is amazing, his sparse playing is so full of intent and feels rich. Again, really enjoyed this jam.
Legitimate tears of joy at the very end for me dude. Awesome.

Cory W my mom was visiting and actually went with me to the clinic. She knows how massive of an influence Steve has been to me and was crying as soon as I got up there. Ha
Perhaps the best 7minutes of my day!..Very very cool - thanks for sharing!
Ben, you're a legend.the happiness in your face gave me goosebumps!
Dude, that had to have been super-intimidating and super-euphoric at the same time. I’m trying to imagine what it would feel like and I imagine the nervousness of playing WITH Steve Jordan would affect my muscles and not just my mind, which would cause me to be really tight. Maybe after a few minutes of playing and getting over the initial shock, I might could take a couple of deep breaths and then maybe I’d be alright. Killer video!

That was the dope on DOPE! Props to you braving a free jam with him, you guys were grooving hard!
It's amazing the musicality of this Man! I think he played a "crash" hit once maybe, his phrases are so long.... You can really see the contrast of maturity here amazing amazing man you are Steve Jordan.

Respect to you man. Great playing. Steve Jordan sits at the top of the pile. Would be great to see him and Brian Blade jamming it out.
I always find myself coming back to this video. So fucking cool. There’s a magic to grooving with another set player, one of my college buddies and I do this kind of thing all the time. And to have that with Steve Jordan?? What an incredible experience that had to have been.

@@NashvilleDrumCoach The closest thing I’ve ever had to that was playing for and with a marching drumline guru, Scott Johnson at PASIC last year. But’s a whole different vibe from set stuff lol. I know you’ve mentioned being influenced by your time doing drumline. Have you kept up the marching percussion world since then? There’s some pretty hip shit going on.
I'm feelin that... ☮️🔥
That’s too cool!
I was there, bro! You killed it! Awesome night with Steve and Chester Thompson as well!
Completely! That was my first thought too! (John Mayer() Beautiful experience regardless; great jam. 😉✌❤🥁🎶
After listening to the both of you, you can tell He Is the Drummer in The Room. No disrespect bro but that man is the man when it comes to playing drums. Better yet he doesn't play drums the man plays music..You and I both know...

Man this is so cool! Nice playing too!
Big nuts to get up and jam with Steve ,you killed it tho!
This is totally crazy....and that groove at the beginning...
Awesome video brotha!! Ty for sharing it!!
It’s been a few years since I’d seen Steve in Modern Drummer. At first I thought damn that dude is showing up Steve Jordan at his own clinic. Oh, the guy on the right is Steve Jordan?? Dayyyyy’em Tasty fat groovin’
Bro, that's so dope!
Steve's snare is so in that pocket beautiful to watch
I can now see how those large hi Hats come in handy in making patterns . More space for stick movement along with tones. Respectfully I'll stick with 13", 14" and 15" . That's what making Music so wonderful , Everyone bring their own to the table ...
i’m so happy for you man
that was awesome.
Great jam! Love your lessons on 180drums too. Cheers!
Sick jam congratulations 🥁🥁
He's been one of my heroes for about about 40 years ! Listen to John Scofield's 'Who is who' and you'll understand , 'nuff said !
Apart from you guys rocking, you just gave a bassist the opportunity to jam with you, so cheers for that

Heck yeah!!!
haha great! You didnt let him down either! Good of you to ask to jam!..i was at an Elvin Jones masterclass once...but didnt dare to ask him anything...still regreting that to this day. I had so many questions about playing in the moment, tuning and where he got the strength to be "the different drummer" while he got critized for it in the beginning. The people who DID ask anything didnt come up with anything else then "what was it like to play with Coltrane" They DID ask though. i didnt. Thanx for the video. Cool groove!
