What made Ring so valuable was not that number of doorbells they sold, which was a lot. It was the recurring monthly subscription they charge to host the Ring videos for sharing. It was really quite genius. If he had brought that to the attention of the sharks at the time, I think they would have taken a shot.

MRR (Monthly Recurring Revenue) Monthly recurring revenue is the true way to earn shit tons of money. You start a contract or membership with someone (membership in his case) and you get paid. This make your business very predictable and makes others invest in it because it is predictable. This also secures revenue for the company. No customers this month? Still no problem. This also stacks up on top of other memberships and you earn exponential and shit loads of money

That's not how it works always! You forgot that he had to raise 200 million to make Ring a billion dollar company. That 10% for 700k would be diluted a lot as they grew, probabaly around 1-2%.

Or even if you had £5495.80 ($7000USD as of 2 June 2024) to invest them it would be £785114.20 ($1000000) today for 0.1% of the company!
I know that feelin walkin back in was somethin very few things could recreate 💯
U dont have to get the sharks to invest, u just gotta get the peoples attention. Someone rich out there will see ur dream and the potential ur product has. Consumers out there will want it. Dont be afraid of the sharks rejections, remember many people are watching.
For the fact that he actually made an offer, really shows that he believed in him and the business.
Ok now I'm crying. Resonate a lot.
Love to see him boss up on them
700k for 10% and woulda been worth 130million today with a company worth 1.3bil.

There has been clarification as to why people rejected his ask - it wasnt because of the lack of proof of concept. Relative competitive market, no sales and CRAZY valuation at this stage (7mil). The fact that Kevin did it was purely to gamble on him specifically.
@tojissock3160

1 million in 9 months is no where near “no sales”. a 7x valuation is not crazy at all
@ThatGuy7433

As an investor, you see if the idea has merit. In this case, anybody can see that his ask was justified because of the vision for something like this. It's a smart idea and I believe he had a patent on it. Wasn't much of a gamble. They just had a narrow mind and are always looking for quick buck and not the bigger view of things.
@warallied
6 ай бұрын
@@ThatGuy7433 investors, angel or technical - are always looking for risk/cost ratio. The higher the cost, the lower relative the risk must be. Even with a risk of 0, there is such a thing as too costly - which can lead to the thought of: ill never make my money back. On the flip side: someone charges 50$ but never worked in his life, barely finished high school and wants to become a streamer - you may tell yourself that its not worth it and ull never see your money again. That being said: everyone has a different many shades of tolerance.
Beautifully scripted.
