    I feel sorry for him, but I brought my partner to one of his restauraunts and they charged 35 bucks for 3 thinly shaved pieces of beef on a layer of salad and called it a main meal. When the waiter asked if everything was alright, I was still hungry and the waiter asked if we'd like to order more. We'd already spent 80+ bucks. We both went elsewhere and got $10 Sushi that was more filling and satisfying. Jamie forgot portions and value for money over his brand name.

  • @rc1952

    @rc1952

    3 жыл бұрын

    Dear Jamie, keep it small. Maybe do one major restaurant and get it working well. Focus on that one and change from doing Italian because someone commented people can now make Italian at home largely due to your teaching how easy is it so they don’t go out for it and it became old style. Also we like you so people will support you next new venture but don’t get too spread out and dissipate your energy. I cooked you bake well tart from KZread this week and the family I shared it with said oh my Lord how good is that! Can I have the recipe. I said it’s given away free on YT and sent her the link. It’s not that you didn’t give anything away free. It’s not that you were greedy for money-you were greedy for expansion but you can’t get too big because it’s too hard to manage it. Do you ordinary man can see what might’ve gone wrong or we can get it from all the comments people make. I was blown away by how good that recipe was for the Bakewell tart and how quickly united -you are an extremely gifted chef. You’re like a chemist. Just those touches of lemon rind in the fridge Japan and the pastry but lots of other things made it absolutely delicious and I was really trying to copy my mum who is English but she made hers just with coconut egg German pastry I don’t know where she got the recipe from - maybe more time?! But with yours I put pecans and walnuts and might have left them in the mincer a bit too long because the friend Japan was quite a fine mixture and another time I would leave the nuts in bigger pieces maybe so the top looks nubbley. Anyway it was to die for and it was your ideas and skill! I went to 15 in Melbourne before the fire and I really enjoyed my evening but I couldn’t see my food because that corner of the restaurant was dark- lol. Therefore it means that you need feedback avenues in your restaurant from customers places where they can make substantial comments that you can see each week. To help you stay anchored to changing demand and trend. That doesn’t mean you are not good with trends andyou are excellent with trends-it’s one of your strong points. I found two of your Jamie Oliver mugs in the opportunity shop the other day and bought them. When they were available in woollies supermarket I bought 12. I loved the design on them -waves. I only had one left because a couple fell on the floor and I gave some away and there might be a few in a box somewhere. I really liked them so when I saw to in the secondhand shop I bought them. So those mugs benefited the charity shop. I don’t think it’s necessary to brand up and diversify into cooking pots unless you only do a few for your brand - don’t get too big just don’t get too big. The bigger your palace the more reliable footmen and maintenance, budget, etc you need. Keep it all in one area near where you live just in the towns around you and keep a very close eye on the busy-ness of it. It doesn’t run itself- no. Somebody else commented that you make woke more realistic comments. Now there is a new generation coming up and they comprise two different characters - the 25-year-olds obsessed with technology and want all their cooking to be perfect with no waste and hate doing dishes, and go out to eat a lot. But the next lot coming up are warriors... Thumberg types... watching other people’s ethics and vegan shoes... so I’m saying they are a mixed bunch of consumers. Do you have to be ready for anything!!!! Then Covid. We know you care about the community and that is a huge selling point but your marketing people need to get it right...And make sure that the good things you do are closely linked with your main restaurant, your brand, your name, your locality, and our finite - not draining on the business. Managing things and keeping it finite, limited, smaller because you STILL have a rock solid viable current GEM of a brand. Take it seriously, think about your responsibility to keep it to a smaller size, don’t diversify wildly, follow your own gut instinct, only do what you know. You will ride again. And all the best brother. 🙋🏻‍♀️👩🏻‍🌾🧑🏻‍🍳🤗

    How it is obvious? By having his first venture be a training restaurant for kids in need. By trying to improve food quality in schools. By putting out vast amounts of free recipes and cooking techniques. By putting in 13 million Pounds of his own money into the failing corporation last year in an attempt to save it. People's characters are generally pretty obvious by their actions and their attitudes - just as yours is by your comment here. Good luck to you "BT" - you obviously need it.

    This is what happens when you become too big, my advice. If you have one restaurant, run it well, and run it like it’s your own flesh and blood child. Over expanding quickly is usually a recipe(no pun intended) for disaster. Quality always takes a hit immediately when turning into a franchise, you lose control, and unless your putting out top quality while handling competition, people will simply go elsewhere. I’d rather have one restaurant, and nothing else, I’d make it the best restaurant I could make it. I’d have to have control over everything to make sure what’s being put out and done is to the standard I hold it to, anything less than that isn’t worth it.

His approach and the love with which he cooks and what he has already done for gastronomy, how he inspired and what he has created still impresses and amazes me, I admire him very much, and even after all these years I love him very much…Definitely one that Britain can be proud of. ❤️ His family is proof of that.

    Agree... if writing on the wall... accountants/auditors & managers per site reported to who? Even when closing down... why leave them in a disgusting state - this Jamie didn't do! In this day best to consolidate & keep cosy & have right staff & chef..who don't let u down with no choice which then leaves the emphasis on the price. Jamie a good guy who dreamt a big dream. Dreams if realised become responsibilities which need one's 100% attention all the time... one can never rely on the manager/ess... cos in the end YOU are the one held accountable..... If he still has the energy after the dust settles..try & keep original site & make it matter. The Brits (all those people living in the UK - no exclusions nationality wise) should back you with your good old heart warmimg dishes using home grown veggies etc., GOOD LUCK REGARDLESS .... a great guy who inspired a British palate!!

I think if he had focused on more ethnic and esoteric cuisine without his branded name, and also a takeaway and catering only, then that could've overcome many changing and fickle tastes of the public. He could've also capitalised on the food truck revolution which would've significantly cut overhead costs

    I eagerly went to the Italian that Jamie had opened in Taipei. After years of watching him on TV, but not having a chance to eat at his restaurant as I live in Taiwan, I was so pleased. However, the food was...pretty crap. The manager came over to us after the meal and asked how the food was. I politely told her it was very disappointing. She immediately said that wasn’t what other customers had said. I shrugged and left knowing that place wouldn’t last six months. I was wrong by a month...it closed in five. I still like Jamie, but he spread himself, or at least his reputation, too thin. Was that greed, over-confidence or just bad business? Probably a bit of all three.

    I love Jamie Oliver. I feel he is a genuine person who I wanted to see succeed. It's a shame really. I feel for him.

    At least he still has his millions in the bank and his big house(s)! It's the staff you feel sorry for as they haven't been paid for months, he will no doubt be opening more restaurants soon though, might struggle to get good loyal staff though

    There's one still open in Toronto. I've never gone as I feel it's just a chain with a name. I wish him the best.

    As a successful bar owner in uk, I know how this feels I have lost 14 pubs thrown in £250k to a pub at a time and not got a dime back. Saddest thing ever sitting there having your last pint/meal and letting it go. Bounce back you learn from your mistakes you go again.
