Faced Tony Perez (born 1942) and Starlin Castro (born 1990). In 2005 Moyer and catcher Pat Borders set two records that may never be broken, with a combined battery age of 84 and 14 confirmed children between them (they now have 17 combined after retirement). Also Moyer himself is a Moneyball legend, in a locker room conversation recorded in the book many of the players agree he's the pitcher they hate to see the most.

I feel like this is the right mix of John Boi’s eclectic production but with more lively commentary. Big fan, you’re going to be one of the big baseball KZreadrs soon enough.

Pulling those old M's commercials was a brilliant touch. Always loved those them growing up.

Enjoyed watching Jimmy the 5 years he pitched for my bum Phillies. First 4 years he had a winning record and had a respectable 9 & 9 win lost record his 5th year with the Phillies. Remember him & his wife did a huge amount of charity work. Never heard a bad thing about him unlike so many other sports players.

Idk why but in any sport seeing an old man still compete is the best

I'm an audio engineer. I had to go to the Peoria Sports Complex to record a Voice Over with him during Spring Training one year. The made me wear this HUGE paper "badge of shame" to have access. on my Badge, in BOLD LETTERS... ABSOLUTELY NO AUTOGRAPHS I'm not the sort who would ask, but when we were done recording, I asked him if he would sign my badge... RIGHT HERE! He looks at me, laughing, said HELL YEAH I WILL 😝

So much fun, and so many feels. Even as an M's Fan, I forget that he came to us post '95. As much as I was upset at the time for the Bragg trade, it paid off in the end. The thing I would note about Jamie, is after coming to Seattle, starting the Moyer Foundation, then leaving, he still kept the Moyer Foundation in Seattle, and continued to support it and appear at events in the Seattle area, even after playing elsewhere. He still comes back to M's events often. As much as Seattle is maligned by most sports leagues, and the isolation here can get to some players, especially younger one, Jamie (along with other players for the M's, Seahawks, and Sonics), still contribute liberally to the community, even if they have long since been traded or retired.

I always appreciated Jamie Moyer. He was fun to follow over his career.

Oh this was a treat! Fascinating and amazing video, man! You definitely channeled some Jon Bois. The inclusion of that bit of Mike Blowers being a time traveling sooth sayer on the Matt Tuiasosopo home run even though that was only remotely related was fantastic. And all the classic Mariners commercials at the end-so many laughs and good memories! I actually hadn’t seen many of them with the moose and the crafty lefties with Jamie framed on the wall lol! How does one man face 9.8% of all batters ever???!

It’s mind blowing that a guy could be so reliable for so long. He was never overpowering. Just reliable. Always gave his best to give his team a shot. He made his mlb debut when I was in the 6th grade. Mind blowing

Great video, but that remark about Mark Kotsay made you sound silly. He had a more than respectable mlb career over 17 seasons with close to 2k hits. That aside, he was arguably the greatest college baseball player of all time. If he never even made the bigs he'd be known by astute baseball fans.

Just for context. When Jamie Moyer retired in 2012, he faced a total of 8.4% of all hitters in the mlb. Think about that. Nearly 10 percent of the entire MLB history of batters.

Saw three interesting stats recently as far as old players go: Bartolo Colon is 49 and is still attempting a major league comeback. Lew Ford (best known for his years on the Twins) is a 46 year old player-coach who still consistently plays, and just finished his 12th season with the independent league Long Island Ducks. Joe Beimel, 5 years removed from playing any affiliated ball, managed to bring his fastball up to 95 MPH at the age of 44, and recently attempted to come back to the majors last season with Padres minor league affiliates.

The commercials at the end were a nice touch.

My mom got me out of school early for those two games against the Orioles. We got swept, but it was still cool to go to a Mariners playoff game. There haven't been many of those lol.

As a soft-tossing high-school left in the early 2000’s, Jaime Moyer was a huge inspiration of mine. Him and Kirk Reuter, go Giants, lol. A shame I couldn’t control a breaking ball to save my life (sinker, splitter, and two different change-ups were the best I could do), and my scarred shins stand testimony to my shaky glove. I can’t say how much much appreciate such a deep dive into one of my favorite and one of the most under the radar MLB players, imho. Along that line, have you looked at Brad Radke or Brooks Kieschnick? Some hidden gems for that era.

I'm glad you found more of your own style in your recent videos because goddamn the humor and especially delivery of some the jokes in this vid is amazing, it got some huge guffaws from me. ngl though you'll probably come back to this vid in a couple years and wince at just how heavyhanded your Dorktown influence is here. using their soundtrack almost exclusively is the most glaring part, and I get it, it's hard to find good music that's not gonna trigger copyright, but it comes across less like an homage and more like you're not capable of coming up with your own direction. especially confounding is your choice to retell the Mike Blowers segment while offering no new insight as if 99% of your audience hasn't already seen the mariners doc. who is it for? not even winking at the fact that you took so much from Dorktown/Bois while also forgoing a special thanks or even a mere shoutout in the description makes the prospect of someone who isn't familiar with their work seeing this all the more troubling-they'd see this presentation and think you were behind all the choices. which is clearly not your intention at all, I think you were just accepting the crutch of a template they offered. still, giving even seemingly obvious credit is incredibly important, which is why you should probably start listing composers and at least some of the footage/image sources at the end of these. Baseball Reference specifically asks that they're credited if you use any of their stats in a piece of media and I've known multiple channels even within baseball yt that have had vids taken down manually by video game composers who were upset about not being credited properly. this comment probably comes across as more mean spirited than I meant it too. there's a lot to love about this video and I like your channel, I'm just a big advocate of artists rights and I'd do the same if I saw your videos getting taken from without proper credit. look forward to watching more from you in the future, you have a great sense of humor and a great eye for topics

​@@ARMTOAST 2 things, first, I 100% look back at old videos and cringe at how knock-off Jon Bois they are, however I still think that they ultimately have enough merit to be the way they are, and enough originality to not just be a complete 1/1 copy second, the Mike Blowers segment was me trying to get the video to 49 minutes which was the original goal, if I made it again I would've cut that and the commercials and instead focused more on the 1990-1995 part of his career which is honestly the most in-depth portion you could go into (however this is with the knowledge I have gained after finishing his book, something I had only briefly read while making the video)

I was hoping he could keep pitching and reach 300 wins.

Agreed! This was an amazing documentary with a noticeable Jon Bois inspiration. But sometimes stats or images would be flashed so quickly that the viewer can’t see them. Especially around 8:20 I couldn’t see that small game recap stats (too small) followed by some quick text. Also the Bregman meme needed another second on screen to actually see. All constructive, mate! Amazing video!

that's why the commercials were in there at the end lol, I was trying so hard to pad the runtime. The post-career section used to be way shorter, the part about the 2008 WS used to be just 2 lines, I originally didn't mention the near no hitter or the game against the Marlins & Reds, basically if it could've been talked about I threw it in there. Although now I realize I kinda skipped over the whole mental aspect of his comeback, maybe I should've bought/read the book before making the video

Rich Hill, the current oldest pitcher in baseball, would have to pitch until 2029 to match Moyer's record Hill is slowly regressing the last couple of years (although he says he would like to return for 2023) but Moyer's age 43 season was actually better than his age 42 & 41 seasons Jamie is a unicorn
