James Taylor - Fire and Rain | Reaction!

James Taylor is someone who's been on the backburner in my mind for months. I've heard his name many times, but I've never listened to his music...until today! I didn't know what to expect, but I really enjoyed his gritty, friendly voice and hard personal journey. He's had his ups and downs and is clearly hurt over the loss of a friend. A loss he can't believe. It's a vulnerable and intimate 3 minutes.
Thanks for watching!

The best singer ever, in my book, whose lyrics always draw me close. I've listened to him all my life and I'm 65 now.

My folks knew his folks, they dined together. Mom was a nurse student, and Dad was studying at Chapel Hill, where James' father, Isaac, was Dean of the Medical School. But this song hits me on a deep level. My first love, Lucy and I would hang out with Rob and Patty doing everything together. But a few years ago, while Rob, Patty and I were on the way to Lucy's funeral, I said: "I always thought that I'd see her again"...which I did. And it wouldn't be long before I would say about Rob, "I always thought that I'd see him again." He was my best man, and was also taken too soon...probably from complications from breathing NYC 9/11 asbestos and smoke, since he rushed in to report on it, and was inundated by it. I happened to be visiting him in NYC, but stayed inside mostly. Anyway, thanks for sharing this pregnant song. James is one of the good ones.

James Taylor, Jim Croce, Simon and Garfunkel and John Denver. So many memories of being in the backseat as my parents played these artists. So thankful for that and the memories that come with them.

James has written too many beautiful songs to list. My absolute favorite is That Lonesome Road off the album Dad Loves His Work. James performed it at John Belushi's funeral about a year after the album release.

Really soothing voice. More signature is "You've got a friend".

@@InsignificantNick Oh, thank you. That means a lot to a non-native speaker of English.

Love this song. For some reason I go straight to an 80s film called “Running on Empty” with River Phoenix. This was the song they used through the film and at the end I always tear up coz we know what happened to River not too long after.

One of my favorite films. Just shared it with a film discussion group I belong to (like a book club) and several who hadn’t seen it before loved it. Especially that scene.

I wish I had a film club here locally where I live. I’m a big lover of film. River made a handful of films that would be on my top 100. Another would be My Own Private Idaho. I recently began loaning a younger newbie cinephile who is looking for NYC shot films from the late 60s to mid 80s. He loves the character NYC brings. I lent him Midnight Cowboy, The Pope of Greenwich Village, The Goodbye Girl and Gloria(Cassavetes). He’s seen Taxi Driver and Annie Hall. I wanted to throw him varied genre films all set in the big apple. ;)

You've got Joni Mitchel on your channel, but no Carol King, Joan Baez or Carly Simon (Taylor's wife from '72-'83). No Linda Ronstadt or Emmylou Harris either? No Dolly? Willie Nelson? You've got a whole chunk of the record store to get to. No shoes required. Pull up a beanbag chair.
