What really bothers me in this call (amongst a lot of other stuff too) is how he refers to people who have not yet entered this country as "illegal immigrants". If they haven't entered the country yet, they haven't done anything to warrant being called "illegal". It's dehumanising, and shows he has no interest in entertaining whether people have genuine asylum cases - he's ready to condemn them on the very nature of them being foreign

I have to agree entirely when I had my latest hip replacement the consultant surgeon was Iranian , His registrar was Nigerian and amongst the nursing staff were Irish , at least two W. Indian someone from Hong Kong and a Norwegian . Most of the ancillary staff had come from either the subcontinent , Europe or the West Indies . And these people have the cheek to say that immigrants are putting too much stress on the NHS .

Yes, imigration may well be "keeping the NHS together" and the reason for this is like other in other industries, the NHS has decided it is easier and cheaper to import people from abroad than to train the natives up to do those jobs. Those that are trained up face depressed wages (due to immigration) and often take up jobs in other countries that will pay them more money. Immigration begets immigration. It is the solution to a problem it itself has caused.

Sounds like my father in law. It’s painful watching TV with him as he points out any non white person for no reason at all. He married a Filipino woman as well!

I think the caller doesn't know that to apply for asylum, you literally have to reach the UK mainland, this island. That is the legal requirement, the legal route to get here. That is the main problem. The caller really needs to realise this, otherwise we will not move forward. Unfortunately, the English government just prefers to dodge the bullet and smear the current situation and paint this immigration as illegal. I would love to say the current immigration is illegal and the government has got the right approach, but it simply isn't the case.

The person most happy with that call, and who wished it had gone on much, much, much longer is David's wife...who was glad of the rest.

How embarrassing! This man has not got a clue.

There are millions of them. And they live amongst us. Sadly, they are no longer confined to boring their two friends (or any9ne willing to buy them a pint) in the corner of the saloon bar on a Wednesday afternonn. We now get to listen to them drone on and on, completely misinformed, on our media both broadcast and social. One the few things I'd bring back from the past, is returning them to the saloon bar where they can be largely ignored.

Still waiting to hear how 240 million being bunged to Rwanda & who knows how much in chartered planes not taking off, all the legal costs, without anybody going is of any use & that Rwanda can only take a couple of hundred per year-which will cost the British taxpayer more than it would to process them here, that Rwanda will be sending a number of their refugees here as part of the deal & that anybody sent there will be deported back to the UK if they get in trouble & that just a few years back Rwanda executed refugees for complaining about the quality of food & the Tories trying to rip up the human rights act for everybody. Please tell us the positives about any of this David & why you will be voting Tory at the next election?

Spot on mate. The emergency legislation the Tories want to table isn't about sending 200 people to Rwanda. It's about denying 65m British people access to the ECHR. This nobody voted for.

When I was born over 50 years ago this country was a paradise compared to now. See your GP same day, dentist within a week, post before going to work, cheap houses to rent and buy, UK was a technology leader , large army and navy etc. This country is a basket case to compared to this time.

From Immigration to Asylum Seekers, to Brexit, to Youth Crime, to Sovereignty, to housing crisis and cost of living...and this guy was calling in to give some positivity!? Oh well, at least I got a full-house on my 'Moaning Boomer Bingo Card'.

I only wish that some callers had more time. Perhaps even a 10 minute timer counting down, so they knew how long they had to try and fight their corner. So many opinions, yet none based on fact as far as I could make out.

The moment this guy said you can’t tie Brexit to higher migration you know he’s in denial and is happy to keep looking the other way, be lied to and deny the evidence of his own eyes and ears. Yet he’s ‘offended’ with James for pointing out the truth. What he means is he doesn’t like to hear the truth. It’s ignorance like this that give the Tories a chance of reelection.

This was one of the most confusing conversations I have ever heard, well done David.

Caller demostrates the Dunning-Kruger effect. His thought bounce around a trampoline of inconsistency and absence of of logical thought.

The problem isn’t illegal, it’s both. A net migration of 700k/per is unsustainable, you can talk about what ever you want and say what ever you like but the maths does not lie.

I've had conversations like this with more people than count. The level of ignorance of the. average British public never ceases to amaze me. It is said you get the government you deserve, but I'm not even sure if these people realise who or what they're voting for. It's so very easy to manipulate poorly informed individuals or those that are not curious to understand what they're being told. See the MAGA voters!

The question that needs answering is WHY? Why should the UK accept any people seeking asylum?

As Suella explained when she had to be honest in a committee hearing, coming in small boats is currently the only legal route for asylum seekers.

I doubt the caller's wife is foreign, I doubt he didn't vote for brexit as he's so pro it

Rwanda at most will only result in 500 refugees being sent there.

That is an enormous exaggeration. Rwanda has been given 300 million £ of UK taxpayers' money for sending ZERO asylum seekers there. Perhaps it would be useful for the UK taxpayers to know what Rwanda has spent the money on.

Just coming upto £155,000,000 for this scheme, and we might be able to send 100 folk there. SO £1,550,000 for each person. Wow, just wow. OR, lets say we built these homeless pods, these cost less than £20,000 each to build and run for 5 years. With £155m we could build and house 7750 pods for people and keep them warm for 5 years. Or build 775 homes and run them for 5 years, that's 775 families. Now tell me its money well spent. Tories are just Trash, throw them out.

Johnson Cummings and Hancock should not have been let near the leavers of a toy train set. Let alone the leavers of government!

Ok it seems a vocabulary is needed for these nuts that are calling. Someone that comes to a country is only an illegal immigrant if you 1) stay in the country without reporting your presence 2) overstaying your visa 3) don't comply with a deportation order. Just traveling to a country with a boat doesn't make you an illegal immigrant.

Coming here in a dinghy is not illegal immigration Improve border patrols and recruit more immigration officers to deal with claims and cases The Rwanda project is by far the clumsiest most absurd policy introduced by this Tory government and lets be honest there have been many to choose from

The truth which you do not want to address is that all these young men arriving are not fleeing persecution or war,unless they are leaving their wife's and children there to fight persecution, no one will ever go to Rwanda

If they're real refugees, then why are they not bringing ID or proof of origin, and throwing their mobile phones overboard.........and where do they get the £5,000 to pay the people smugglers to get on the boat?

Suddenly Britain's political woes make perfect sense. It's the voters, they got the leadership they deserve.

17 million out of 68 million is not a majority. And that David does not KNOW that the Referendum Bill was ADVISORY ONLY. Not COMPULSORY. I am ashamed that the caller has the same name as myself. We are normally, unless Tories, sane, rational and nice people.

And they call us snowflakes

There are alternatives, David. We set up processing centres abroad in safe countries such as France, who have kindly offered to host such a centre, and use the money that has thus far been going to Rwanda to properly fund it all. Suddenly like magic, boat crossings would dry up and the few that do cross illegally would be deported with far more ease than at the moment as due to the safe routes established it can be argued in court that they are in fact not legitimate refugees.
