If you wear an officers hat people are more courteous but wearing a balaclava tends to double your journey time as you're stopped quite often by other people wearing hats called cops. I prefer to wear my pith helmet (helmet worn by troops in the Zulu wars, for the uneducated).

As a motorcyclist back in the 1980's, I was always told to avoid anyone wearing a hat in a car as they where general old, and as such not always aware of what was going on around them.
