    Its easy to say that and praise players when you see interviews like this but the truth is the vast majority of players are wary of how the media will portray them, and rightfully so. Don’t blame the players/managers for the robotic, vanilla interviews, blame the reporters, interviewers and news outlets that take anything they can out of context and try to stir things up as much as possible.

    When you're too frank, you'd give yourself little room when pressure of the opposite happens in the future. Some captains, coaches, even players agents wouldn't recommend it

    I think it’s because he’s more confident in front of the camera. Most of these players are not- so they stick to the script in case they say the wrong thing or something that doesn’t make sense. In my opinion

    @@riyad6923 They do train for the media though, "all about the team", "don't care who scores, 3pts is what matters", "this is a tough place to come", "we never stopped believing"etc. If footballers are given freedom in interviews you'd get to see more guys like Maddison here and other guys like Ozil, Demba Ba, Koulibaly making sure awareness is raised for injustices around the globe.

    I think it’s nigh-on impossible to become a top class professional footballer without a slight bit of arrogance. As long as it’s backed with motivation, as Dean says, that’s a quality that can really take you to the top.

    It was a very effective way of putting it, even though it's essentially the same thing as the old cliche managers and players use: "we're taking it one game at a time and not looking too far ahead." All the good players and teams have their head in the game, in the moment, and it all adds up in the end.

    TBH I always skip minutes in interviews to the part I see on the title, only this time to be in awe and total shock of James's honesty, confidence and beautiful attitude in the interview, couldn't skip one second. Regret the fact that this is the first time I hear this guy being interviewed. What a character and a great natural future pundit. He could make his own Football KZread channel and even be a bigger Legend.

    1:19 cheeky dig at the bigger clubs like Chelsea for example who don’t look like they have a team spirit and have too many players whereas Leicester has a nice core with 2 or 3 additions to their squad keeping a good team spirit and madders comes across a level headed and a strong personality. Keep it up 👍

    Madders is becoming a student of the game. There were questions about his attitude in the past but you really get a sense that he's decided to knuckle down and focus on his football. He's actually giving me future manager vibes already haha.

    Really good interview. He gave good detailed answers and he’s clearly listening and thinking about the questions and giving back his genuine opinions and thoughts. Unlike a lot of other football interviews full of sound bites and “yeah but no” one liners, this is actually not a complete waste of time.

    What people say in interviews has no bearing on their managerial prowess. Not to be a nob but bielsa hates interviews and he’s class. Klopp is great at interviews and he’s class. It’s about what the public don’t see behind the scenes.

    @@Aaron19987 yeah in hindsight the manager comment may have been a stretch too far. I believe any player could go on to be a manager if they have the right credentials but of course we don’t know if that’s the case with Maddison yet. Punditry however I stand by what I said.
